I mean this in the most genuine way possible but IMOâ Key needs a therapist not Chan and whatever tf they have going on btw them bc itâs super unhealthy. Thereâs the âenemies to loversâ dynamic and then thereâsâŠ.THISđ€ I LOVE the actresses(and acting) in this show but I HATE the âsugar babyâ angle! Iâm sorry but itâs just so..transactional, degrading and disingenuous. Sure, itâs different from what weâve seen before but that doesnât necessarily make it a good thing. Iâve said it before and Iâll say it again, I will never blame the actresses bc itâs not their fault. They do the best they can with what they are given but I do blame the writersđ€đŒ Itâs like they know that GL fans will support the actresses no matter what and will accept pretty much anything they put out which gives them a pass to be lazy with their writing and that really frustrates me. [and Iâm not just talking ab this Gl series but a lot of them] Itâs not gonna stop me from watching though which is kind of the point Iâm trying to makeđ„Žđ
Something something about how Chan's original dream involved music (As told to us in the first episode by Sun) and both the women in her life represent a musical instrument J(Piano) and Key(Guitar) and how her taking Key's guitar out of its case this episode represented Chan ready to open her heart to Key.
I would rank my preferred couples as: Key-jay: great chemistry and starting off with no trauma lol Jay-Chan: I was really feeling for jay this episode đ I think I also am just a big fan of film and will always root for her lol I also love how they didnât make her a villain. Key-Chan: their relationship is a little weird for me. Love EmiBonnie, but Key being in love with Chan after meeting once years ago doesnât feel like love, it feels like a trauma response. If someone came into my life and had a tattoo they got for me because I gave them a ride, Iâd be a little creeped out. I also didnât feel the build up when Chan chased Key and confessed. I just feel like the show hasnât done a good job at showing why Key and Chan are falling in love, so itâs hard to root for them. Theyâve only had a few cute moments, but nothing really that deep.
i think there needs to be more chan backstorty ngl
OMG WAIT. OK hear me out. I know some people are talking about Sun and either Key or Jay, but i find that so cheesy. Sun and Chan are nothing alike, it would feel like she was just a stand-in for Chan. BUT, Since we've already mixed ships in this show, maybe instead of Namtan needing to show up, they can fix Jay up with Peach???!!?! I would be SO ok with that đ
The issue with Key's mother does have to be a new-ish mental health problem for sure. There's no way that Key got to 17 or whatever living with a mother THAT abusive and violent. She would have been living with her father and stepmother for SURE. I wonder if it's a bit like Nene's mother from Us, she was the affair partner, but she couldn't handle the dad's rejection so she became seriously depressed. I'm not 100% sure though, the step mother seems SO chill about Key. But Peach is the stepmother's daughter as far as i can tell, and she's older than Key which confuses me a bit. IDK, maybe it's a secret second family thing? IDK how any of these stories can be true without me thinking the dad is a dickhead đ The idea that Key's mother might have left her in the woods and then gone home and offed herself actually does have some weight to it now that i think about it. IIRC, Key was in her school uniform in the scene we saw, just like when Chan dropped her off. And, it seemed like her father, stepmother and sister arrived there after Key found her, so maybe it was the night she got dropped off by Chan. It would also make Key being SO incredibly attached to Chan make more sense maybe, if she mentally associates Chan with this huge event in her life, even if it was also one of the worst nights she's ever had. I liked that we finally saw a bit of emotion from Chan, and i especially loved the contrast between Jay's thoughts on love, saying that you only enjoy the first kiss and after that it's like an addiction, vs Chan telling Key that her heart races EVERY time they kiss. It makes it really clear why Chan would reject Jay for Key after pining for her for so long. Key has really shown Chan that there is more to love than what she had with Jay. As always, Film totally kicked my heart in the ass though; like, her decision WAS the dumbest decision she could have made, she obviously should have just communicated with Chan, borrowed the money and then gone no-contact with the aunt. But seeing her cry like that always kills me. She's not a *bad* person, just an insecure idiot. So i'm glad that actually there is more of a reason that Chan doesn't take her back (that her love for Key is different and maybe deeper). Hopefully Namtan shows up in the last couple of episodes and heals Jay's poor, broken little heart, and she tells the aunt to go fuck herself. Maybe the aunt just dies, i'd be fine either way. đ
I also agree the "I love you" ending was a bit jarring. I think you could have kept the scene exactly the same but just change the words to "lets make this a real relationship". I agree with the many comments above have said it's obvious to me that Chan really does care about Key. Her words just weren't matching her actions. But I personally think Key is at least partially to blame for that. Every time Chan asks Key a personal questions, Key plays it off. Chan asks her about her nightmare, Key makes a joke. Chan asks if everything is okay with Keys family when Key is home with Big Mom, again Key is evasive. I think Key has the most to work on in actually letting people in. As far as Jay, I think everyone wants to give Jay an extra shot because we are all looking it with the "Film is amazing" bias lens. For me I don't blame Chan for not giving her another shot. I think Chan is being kinder then she has to be to Jay. Jay blew it when she did not have a conversation with Chan before she left. Even if it was to say, I love you and this is not what i want, but this is what i'm doing, and then leave. I think Jay is being selfish by continuing to pursue Chan when Chan has continuously told her to back off since she returned. She is only hurting her more. She is again not respecting Chan, because it's not what she wants. I'm optimistic that there is going to be some more reveals of reasons for characters motivations for their choices. We're only half way through the story so there has to be more drama and twists to come. Also I hope they eventually do explain all the of Key's family relationships. Because I'm not sure if Key's mom was the OG mom or she was a mistress mom. Key is younger than Peach so if they share a Dad, that would likely mean Key's mom was the mistress and I do think that would explain a lot about how Key feels about herself. But either way Big Mom is a sweetheart because she obviously loves Key like she is her own and Key deserves that.
Iâm a bit surprised you ladies didnât recognize Peach, Keyâs step-sister. The actress not only played in Enemies with Benefits but she played the toxic friend of Mei, Filmâs character from Pluto. I was hoping one day we will receive a pleasant surprise of her starring in her own GL. We can hope.
Honestly each episode im rotating which couple to ship in this show. This is also my 1st gl show where I feel conflicted shipping the main couple at times because one of the pairs have better dynamics with someone else (*cough* Jay). I do like that feeling because it is something we havenât really experienced even if there are some reused tropes in this show. Itâs refreshing and ofc itâs something GMMTv would do. At the moment, Iâm rooting for Jaykey or ChanJay (tho only for this episode cause of filmâs performance).
For Jay: I think itâs valid to think it fall shorts for her reason to leave. Honestly, if they provided more, maybe more of the audience would have pivoted off the main couple, so I understand why they didnât flesh it out more. For me, I related to Jay there because Iâve been in a similar situation with her and Iâm from the working class. Itâs just that family ties hold such heavy weight, in my opinion. So even if Jayâs reason wasnât fleshed out more or if it is an overused trope, I think the reason itself is valid and Filmâs performance carried how Jayâs reason to leave wasnât done out of intentional malice which I believe was the main message for us. I donât judge Jayâs reason cause I do think in her POV she was doomed in her choices. If she relented and went to Chan for help, not only would Jay feel indebted to her (which isnât healthy) but it could potentially bring Chan into a cycle of her Aunt going after her for money even behind Jayâs back. This would have strain and doom their relationship eventually. So I understand her decision to not involve her, no matter if Chan would have gladly done so. The only decision I DO judge her for is not communicating to Chan in breaking up. For that, Iâm glad Chan was strong and rejected her even if I would have if I was in her place (cause Filmâs performance was chef's kiss). At the end of the day, from Chanâs perspective, Jayâs made a terrible choice in just leaving her without saying anything. It is super valid because not only she didnât get closure until after a while but getting back together wouldnât be easy. If you are too afraid of getting hurt again and not willing to open up again (which is fair in her case) then the relationship would not be healthy and would have been doomed from the start. Some people are built to give second chances and some people arenât. It seems Chan is the latter and thatâs okay. In another gl universe, we would have been shown them getting back together. Iâm glad itâs this outcome, even though I have issues with the pacing of the main couple too. I liked that Jay made a terrible choice and she just has to live with the consequences. Itâs realistic. I also like how the main couple isnât starting healthy either and something some of us arenât buying just yet cause it allows room to grow and show Key is just the better option. Chankey development reminds me of how Shasha and Gorya's relationship developed so if they made them good then I have faith they will do the same with them too.
LOL all my thoughts exactly I actually ijbolled when Chan said I love you cos it just came so out of the blue - and literally her telling Jay she didn't believe in love 10 minutes before that đ€Ł I'm sure she does but pacing in the show at first watch doesn't convince the audience that what we've seen based on their interactions was as meaningful. I still love the show and will continue to watch because the acting is FIRE. Im literally so in awe of both Bonnie and Film's performance in this show and it keeps getting better. I've been wanting to say that this triangle was hella giving me Love Design in that the ex was their first love such as Mind and after explaining herself at least both these characters got closure and move on to the new love. I'm hoping we get more screentime with EmiBonnie. Now that we're halfway through the show I'm down to say bye to Jay and see what else they will unfold here. đđ»
I honestly couldn't care less for Chan and it's making the story really drag for me. đ
P'Fon - " I've already given you the most healthy and green flag relationship EmiBonnie series, now here's the most toxic and chaotic Emibonnie series. ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE!" đ đ đ
*** RULE BREAK KISS *** - First things first... If we'll see the usual Thai GL wrap-up where original couple ends up together, GMMTV better bring in Namtan to ease Jay's broken heart - I demand it! Every show ends like a fairy tale, why not give a good ending for Film too? - Dee asks for shipping choices: ChanJay or ChanKey... Why do we have to choose, Dee? Why not ChanJayKey? đ€Șđ€Șđ€Ș - Let's all admit, Chan is living the ultimate 'heart-breakee' fantasy, where the ex comes back, apologizes and explains why they had to leave and their reason is not because they fell out of love/they got bored/they found someone else better/they felt stuck BUT for greater good. Most of us, I assume, have 'the one that got away' and let's all admit having mini fantasies of our exes coming back where the interaction plays out as it did in the episode. I agree that Jay's reason fell short though... - I agree 'I love you' is too much and stole our ascending to the romantic peak. While most of the conversations are spot on, this one was a failure. I'd expect something like 'I think I began falling for you' or 'Now I can allow myself to love you' or sth. Powerful and just. - Small detail but I cannot seem to buy the backstory... Are we sure Peach and Key are half-sisters and not cousins? Thai to English translation it seems is difficult and many times we witnessed the word 'sis' is used to cover 'cousin' relationship in subtitles. (4 Elements) The word 'Big Mom' also sounds weird - what if it does not mean Step mom? I understand there's health issues but why would Key's mom be living under the same roof with the ex husband and his new wife? I wonder if 'Big Mom' means Key's aunt who raised her like her daughter Peach and also tried to take care of her sister (Key's mom) That would explain all to me. So far, the family dynamics are all over the place for me.
I agree with your demand for Namtan to give Jay/Film a happy ending. Does GMMtv read these reaction threads? đ
I agree: the transition is not convincing. Rollercoaster is the GL series to watch for this issue.
I agree with you guys; it feels rushed. I can see Chan starting to like Key, but love, I don't think so.
This show is genuinely so interesting to me. Firstly, I've been on Twitter and I've seen some contrasting opinions and feeling about the show and the writing and I honestly don't have a full opinion on it because it is not over yet. I feel like there are some really compelling elements to this show. Like I know how people feel about all the different ships and how ChanKey's relationship is, but the way it has been written is so interesting. It leaves a lot of room for conversation and the way the characters are written I actually enjoy. Obviously none of the relationships seem really healthy, but the background of the characters give insight on why the relationships are going the way they are. I genuinely have so many feelings about this show. I wish I had someone to talk to about it because there is so much to say. I truly hope the show ends well because I know for some this first half has been questionable. All three girls are absolutely killing it, GMMTV has some amazing actresses.
This episode also had me reeling at the end, lol! I'm glad I've had a day to think about it, as well as watching it again through your reaction, because I think I figured it out why it almost unsettled me. It was obviously way too soon for either of them to say "I love you". I think that's partly why Key at the start of this episode was like "and what if I really fall for you?" because she recognizes that while she may love Chan, she is not IN love with her. I think that's also part of the reason why Key don't really react super positively to Chan's confession (barely smiles and very noticeably for me doesn't utter a word)- Key /knows/ it's way too soon and surface-level. Now, as to why Chan confessed- honestly, I think Chan's love map is just as screwed up as Key's (although obviously in totally different ways). Where Key is willing to overlook abuse and emotional coldness- like she did with her mother, and we see her doing repeatedly with Chan- Chan has had one serious relationship that obviously completely shattered her to lose, and I think she's latching on to Key in the way that Key is the first person to provide her any relief from that heartbreak- and between that and getting some closure with Jay is what finally let Chan think "okay this is it! I'm healed and can have a girlfriend again!" when just /saying/ you're healed doesn't actually do the work. Aaaaall this being said- I think we are feeling this way on purpose. Like, I trust P'Fon truly with my life- Us the Series broke the blueprint for me- so I think she's doing it /intentionally/ to make us go "that's not quite right." Hopefully that's the right way to look at it and she doesn't let me down!!
Also still donât understand why Key let Chan Catnap Simba.
So we went from mild bi-polar Aunt in Fire to extreme bi-polar mom in Moonshadow. Thatâs rough. Hits a little too close to home for me. I need some comedy in the mix.
For Chan & Jayâs story, this is the 1st time in a GL where I cannot & choose not to side with neither cuz both partiesâ stories hurt so much it makes my head hurt. The moment Meesh stood up somehow heightened all of the emotions I felt during this episode. It was kind of a difficult(?) episode, for lack of a better word. So girl same, I wouldâve stood up with you too. Also I am so invested in reading all these comments. And oh my, if only everyone in here could gather, weâd be producing only perfect GLâs. Lastly, fck it Iâm team throuple âđŒđ§Ą
Not gonna lieâ- Chanâs feeling reveal for Key at the end did give me a bit of whiplash. I too thought whoaâŠwait a minute⊠youâre just starting to soften up to Key. It would have made a lot more sense for her to say⊠âI choose you not Jayâ and then the remaining episodes we can see their relationship grow . But instead weâll see where these writers and the director take us. đ Filmâs acting is beyond good. She really can show pain and sadness so much that so that Iâm crying too đ„ Emiâs aloofness to Jay is spot on and her warming up to Key is evident. Plus her voice is sooooo sexy đ« Bonnie is another actor who is exceptionally good at showing hurt and sadness. And she also shows her range from flirty to innocent. I do want to know if in Thailand if they have any bugs hanging out. Why do I always see doors and windows left wide open? đđ„Ž
Oh yes... I get itcy every time I see the actresses play outdoors at night time - mosquito issue is real people!
No shade but I wish Chan and Jay got back together and lived happily ever after lol thatâs what I want to happen đ But if we talking about the series having a plot I guess I prefer Chan getting back with Jay and telling Key things are over between them⊠and with in time Chan realizing things arenât like before being with Jay and starting to feel she made the wrong choice. Then Chan ends up breaking up with Jay so she can be with Key Something like that I woulda preferred lol bcuz I needed more of Chan and Jay lowkey
This series, just like US, is one that needs to be watched, rewatched, and analyzed from every angle. It doesnât throw anything in your face, but if you pay attention, youâll discover a lot of subtext. A lot of the comments here have already said more or less what I think, so Iâll just add one thing. I donât think Chan would have ever gone back to Jay anyway. Personally, I wouldnât have. You left, you betrayed my trust after YEARS of being in a relationship. We could have talked about it, discussed it, and even after you found out that I wanted to marry you, you still chose to leave. If we got back together, I would always have this doubt in the back of my mind that one day you might leave again for another reason. The relationship wouldnât be the same. I think Chan put it perfectly: âI gave you all my love, and it wasnât enough. I donât have any more to give you.â As PâFon said during the first episode: âActually, in the end, I think this is a story abt love. No matter how tangled like electrical wires a relationship is, in the end, we still have to choose someone, someone that weâd like to spend the rest of our life with. In the end, no matter what, no matter what problems we might face, we want to walk forward with someone.â (Translation by @vacantvolcanic on X) I donât think the point of this series is to make you root for one couple over another. I think itâs a series that shows you just how complicated relationships can be, and how many people donât realize that one wrong choice can ruin even the most beautiful relationship you could ever have. I think this series will make people understand is that you can overcome obstacles together. Not everyone is going to meet their partner when theyâre at the best point in their life, and you also choose a partner based on things like this â on how they support you and stand by you while you overcome your obstacles. Iâm sure that now that Chan has moved on from Jay, weâll see how much Chan will help Key overcome her own traumas. Because, in the end, life is made of beautiful things, but also of painful ones, and we get to choose who we want to face them with.
When Chan told Key "Iloveyou".. I was like WTF?? The whole story doesn't really make sense..
Me too, Chan doesn't even remember Key when she was a kid.
I agree 100% with what you said Iâm glad that you put it out there and didnât hold back your honest opinion when a lot of people would nuance it and try to make excuses.
lmfao am i the only person that wouldnt take my ex back if she left me to marry someone else without speaking to me about the situation !!! yes i feel bad for jay and understand but the lack of the communication is such a red flag but the actinggggggggggggg film needs an award lmfao
Yea no. The aunt told her to marry the guy for money, she didn't tell Jay how to break up with Chan. Of course that would have been a brutal conversation, but leaving a note like that after being with that person for seemingly since high school? No coming back from that. Has it ever been determined how long Jay has been gone? I feel it's been like 3 years, but maybe it's more like 5? Film kills every role she is in, but this is really stellar acting. So good.
This is my favorite episode so far, due entirely to the acting and production. Also, we finally get some revelations. Honestly, I think I'd prefer for Jay and Key to get together. Well, for the first time I feel like a know what's going on. LOL. Great reaction, Meesh & Dee!
âWhat the fuck! You donât even know herâ-Dee That was exactly my reaction đ€Šđ»ââïžđ€Ł
Well, itâs not really like that. It may seem like no time is passing and like they barely know each other, but theyâre actually spending time together. In the first episode, theyâre already talking about opening the restaurant, and by episode 5 theyâre testing the menu, so weeks must have passed. And Chanâs looks at Key, as well as the way she talks to her, are changing. In this episode especially, you can tell that she gets annoyed every time Jay shows up. They sleep together in Chanâs bed, Key knows where things are in the apartment, and when Chan hears the door, she smiles because she thinks Key has come home. And like Emi said today, PâFon told her to say âI love youâ because she already had feelings of love for Key, and at that moment she had to confess, otherwise she would lose her.
I see the ending kiss and Chan saying she loves Key as Chan just doing it to keep Key in her life. Chan knows that seeing her kiss Jay would most likely be the breaking point for Key, so in order to keep her in her life she says what she knows Key wants to hear. I do also think Chan likes Key, but she is not certain if it is love which is why she did what she did at the end.
Episode 5 âFirst Quarter Moonâ starts with another flashback to Keyâs past, to a time when she tried to feed her mother some chicken. But her mother didnât want to eat it, and reacted irritated to her continued ties, eventually throwing the plate away. Key tried to entice her to some fruits instead, but her mother just told her to let her die, and hysterically tries to get her out of her room, eventually hitting her with a framed photo in the process. Big mom and Peach separated the two of them and Peach brought Key to the hospital to let them check her. Afterwards, she asked Key if I hurt a lot, and Key claimed that the wound on her head didnât hurt as much as her heart. Peach consoled her by hugging her and telling her itâs okay, Key claimed that she knew that mother didnât mean to hurt her, but that it really hurt as Peach argued that Key still has her. After the credits, Peach and Niam are at big momâs side, who is suffering from some illness again. Peach proposes that she spend the night at the hospital for observation, as she passed out, but big mom claims that sheâs fine, just a little tired. Her mood improves as Key comes in, she is surprised that Key knows about her passing out, but Peach called her, she claims, and is worried about her. But did mom claims that sheâll be fine after a little rest, and after seeing her again. Meanwhile, Chan is dealing with Simba as she calls Key asking if she will come to her condo that night, but Key canât, she claims, because of some family matters. Key wants to know if sheâs worried about her, but Chan claims she was just asking, and thinks that Key isnât mad at her anymore because she is joking now. But Key argues that she doesnât know yet, and asks her to take care of Simba for her. Chan claims that Simba will soon forget her as she didnât visit him at all. Key goes silent for a long time, then tells her she will talk to her later and ends the call. Chan argues with Simba that Key is probably still mad at her, and asks him what should she do to make up with her. Peach thanks Key for coming home and apologizes to her for calling her home so suddenly, but Key thinks she should apologize for barely coming home to visit big mom. Peach told Niam to prepare her old room and is glad that she came home, claiming no one can hurt her now. But Key remembers her motherâs accusations as she passes by her old room and gets another panic attack. Peach hugs and console her claiming that thereâs nothing to be scared of, and that she still has her. Later at night, she is sitting outside as big mom joins her, asking if she canât sleep. Key is surprised to see her outside as she is still unwell, but big mom claims that sheâs just like her, and she canât sleep. But she argues that this day was a good day as Key came back to see her. And itâs also the âfirst quarter moonâ tonight, she argues, which is said to be the strongest phase of the lunar cycle. She claims that itâs the phase when, if you have the determination, hope or will to do something, you can succeed. You can conquer burdens and overcome your fear. She argues that no matter what happened, Key still has her, Peach and her father, who always love her. Key thanks her for it, and apologizes for taking so long to come visit her. They assure each other of their love for each other as they hug. The next day, Peach is asking her why she leaves so soon and wants her to stay a bit longer, but Key has work and in important errand to do, she claims. Peach wants her to quit her job, and work for the family business instead, but Key claims asking her to quit singing is like telling her to quit photography and declines it, Peach claims that she knows how to talk back to her, as Key says goodbye to big mom and Niam promising to come more often in the future. Big mom wants her to take the chauffeur home, arguing that she can have someone take her motorcycle to her condo. But Key declines the offer, telling big mom to have a meal together the next time, as she wants to see her father as well. She leaves with Peach telling big mom that she will return soon. Key takes some time to collect herself, then leaves on the motorcycle. Jay is waiting for Chan to arrive to invite her to the soft opening of the restaurant. Chan doesnât want to go, but Jay pleads with her to go as the hotel owner with her, and she has something important to tell her, she claims, but wants her to come with her to tell her. Key arrives as Jay pleads with her to give her another chance, and Key joins them and invites herself to the dinner. Jay doesnât remember inviting her, but Key argues that she needs customers at the restaurant and turning them away is unprofessional. Jay claims that itâs a good point but is sorry that she wonât let her come. Key argues that Jay feels intimidated by her, and that does the trick, as Jay allows her to join them. Chan asks the two of them to stop fighting, but Key argues they arenât fighting, calls Jay PâJay and asks if that is right and Jay confirms it. So they sit at the most awkward dinner ever, and Chan wants Jay to tell what she has to tell her, but Jay wants to talk to her in private. Chan argues that then they have nothing to talk about, and leaves, but Jay claims that she is sorry for leaving her to get married, that is all she can say as she asks Chan to forgive her. But Chan thinks an apology canât fix everything, and asks her if she expects to go back to her, calling her apology just an empty word that means nothing to her. Jey knows that leaving Chan hurt her, but argues that her hands were tied and she had no choice. But Chan argues that she had choices, yet she chose to leave her, and whatever her reason was, she is not buying it. Chan leaves with Key following her. Key finds Chan looking out of the window in her office, and hugs her from behind, telling her not to be sad. Chan asks if sheâs no longer mad at her, and Key confirms it, claiming she is just her sugar baby and canât stay mad at her for long, otherwise, Chan might leave her. Chan claims that she really doesnât understand her, but Key wants her to not be stressed and invites herself over to her place for the night. Chan agrees claiming she should take care of their son (meaning Simba) and Key agrees that she canât leave him, and they hug. At night, Jay is trying to drown her sorrows at the bar as her Aunt calls. She doesnât pick up, but eventually picks up the call and wants her to say what she wants. She wants her to go to a party at Madame Ployâs the coming weekend, arguing that she hasnât seen her in a while. But Jay argues that she isnât that close with her, so why does she have to go? Aunt wants her to stop ask questions and just go to where she tells her to go â for her family. But Jay argues that she has done enough for her family, with Aunt arguing sheâs doing all this for her future, but Jay claiming that sheâs doing it for herself, and ends the call. Chan wakes up with Simba, but without Key in her bed. She gets up and finds a message from Jay âPlease forgive me, I miss you so muchâ as Key calls her. She is waiting in the kitchen, having sensed that she woke up, and Chan thinks sheâs just guessing, but Key has spent a lot of time with her, she argues, and she know her every move now. She knows what time she wakes up, arguing that even without an alarm clock, she always wakes up at the same time. Chan acknowledges that Key surely knows a lot, and Key claims itâs because sheâs her sugar baby. She hands her the breakfast, but cuts herself while slicing a strawberry. Chan rushes to her side and wants to see the wound, but Key pretended to cut herself to claim her heart hurts. Chan (rightfully) finds this not funny, but Key pleads with her not to be mad at her, and claims she not good at making up. Chan thinks sheâs rather good at making up, but Key maintains that sheâs not goo at it, but sheâs good at something else, she claims. Chan wants to know who taught her those lines, but she just canât help it, Key claims â and kisses Chanâs chest. She asks her if they shall start, then starts to feed her breakfast. She then gives her the option as choosing â between breakfast and her, but Chan chooses the breakfast. She wants to know about her skills - which Chan reports to be good â but Key wanted to know about her skills in bed, which gets her a âlittle pervâ back. Later, she helps her putting on a necklace, perfume and even her shoes, as she claims that sheâs always her girl and want to be by her side and take care of her for a long time. But Chan ruins the mood by claiming that itâs a business deal between them, but as long as their deal hasnât been cancelled, she can keep doing her job. Key asks what if itâs not just a job, what if she really falls for her, what would she do? But we donât get an answer to this important question. Phu wants to know how she finds the restaurant, but Chan claims that she canât tell having only eaten a bit and left. Phu wants to know why, but Chan claims that Jay should have told him, and accuses him of following Jayâs order and coax her again. Phu admits that she talked to him to persuade Chan to talk to her, as she wants to explain why she broke up with her. He asks her doesnât she want to know why Jay suddenly left her and got married? But Chan claims that whatever the reason was, it didnât hold water, so whatâs the point of knowing it. Phu admits that Jay did a terrible this to her, and heâs saying this as her friend that she should hear her out, not to forgive her but to get closure. But Chan tells him to tell Jay that she doesnât want to hear it, and tells him to leave. In the evening, sheâs cleaning the condo and marvels at Keyâs guitar case with a moon keychain, arguing that this is Key and Chan and smiling. She unpacks the guitar and plays a bit as someone enters the condo â but itâs not Key, itâs Jay, who claims that Chan refuses to see her, so she has to do this. She argues that Chan needs to hear her that day, and Chan tells her to just say what she has to say. Jay asks her if she remembers aunt Mon, the aunt who raised her after her parents died. She argues that the truth is sheâs never had freedom in her life. And we get a flashback of them talking about money problems by Mon, as her investment didnât do as well as she thought, she needed money to put into the investment and asked her for help. Jay offers to give her one to two million THB (30,000 to 60,000 US$), but she needs ten million (300,000 US$). Jay proposed to sell the house, but that is a family heirloom, her aunt claimed, and she couldnât sell that. Mon wanted Jay to borrow in from Chan, arguing that she was the firstborn heir to a rich family. Jay didnât want to borrow money from her girlfriend, but Mon argued that every relationship was transactional, arguing that she let them date for this long, when she has many rich men pursuing them, because of that. Mon later has trouble explaining her financial troubles to her friends who threaten legal action. Afterwards, she tells Jay that by marrying a guy named Derek, who is crazy in love with her, all problems will be solved. But Jay claims that she doesnât love him, then Mon comes back to asking Chan to help her, and blames her money problems on raising Jay. Jay is hurt by the lack of affection, but agrees to marry Derek, arguing that this is the last time she will help her. From now on, she will live her own life, with Mon arguing she should have done it sooner, and not reacting to Jay crying. So, she left Chan, but not before finding the wedding rings she hid. She broke down crying and claiming that she was sorry. She report Chan that after she married, Derek gave her aunt everything she had hoped for, and she got money to start her own business. When she completed her duty, she divorced him and came back to her. Chan claim that she never though Jay was this kind of person. Jay claims she did it to become free, so that she can love her without worrying about anything. But Chan thinks she is too brazen, and Jay admits that she is so shameless to come back to her, but she claims that she came back to the one who truly loves her â Chan â and claims she saw the rings and that she wanted to marry her, and asks for another chance. But Chan claims that no matter what her reason was, from the day that she left her, she stopped believing in love. Sheâs doing this not because she canât forgive her â but their relationship is over. Itâs all in the past. Jay claims itâs because of Key, but Chan claims it has nothing to do with her, she just hasnât got any love to give her. She compares kissing and smoking again and wants them to kiss to prove it. If she kisses her and doesnât feel that excitement, she will let her go, she promises. And Jay kisses Chan â right at the moment that Key returns to the apartment and gets a perfect view of it. She drops the cat food she brought which makes Jay and Chan realize that they are no longer alone. Key just leaves without a word and Chan wants to run after her, but Jay holds her back waiting for the answer. Chan tells her she doesnât have feelings for her anymore, and her kiss meant nothing to her. She claims that sheâs sorry and say goodbye to Jay before running after Key. Jay break down crying claiming itâs not true. Chan catches Key outside the hotel, and tells her to hear her out. She claims that her heart is only beating fast whenever she kisses her, whether itâs the first time or any other time. She kisses her on the mouth â breaking her own rule â and tells her she loves her, before kissing her again. And thatâs where the first half on âMoonshadowâ ends. ____ That was the longest episode to date which covered a lot of ground, as Chan finally chose between Jay and Key after Jay revealed her family problems which caused her to break up with Chan and marry someone else. I personally think she made the wrong decision as Chan surely would have preferred helping her aunt over breaking up, but in the end, it was her choice that ruined the relationship, and Chan was right not to forgive her. I was surprised that Chan bursts out the âI love youâ to Key at the end, but this should put an end to the well-acted love triangle, Yet next week, Um will return in her favorite role: as a mother who causes trouble for her daughter. Sheâll fit right in with the awful mother figures that Keyâs mom and Jayâs aunt are; Iâll be there for sure.
cool story bro
It's fine that this can happen in real life till you really think about it. Jay did not have to do that. She had some money. She just needed to go to Chan and start their life and be done with the Aunt. The Aunt doesn't deserve Jay's sacrifice. Plus who knows, maybe Chan would have helped the Aunt of her own free will. That's why the pain was not necessary
I saw this on twitter and I agree with it: âChan created the no-kissing rule because she felt something for Key from their very first kiss and since then weâve constantly seen her thinking about Key and trying to get closer to her beyond their physical relationship. The problem is that Key keeps an emotional barrier between them, often turning things sexual to avoid opening up about her past and her trauma with her mother. Chanâs biggest mistake was never setting clear boundaries with Jay. She repeatedly said she didnât want her back, but still left the door slightly open, probably because she didnât want to hurt Jay despite everything that happened between them. That ultimately created the misunderstanding that forced Chan to confess before she was ready. It wasnât the ideal moment, but it fits everything weâve seen in previous episodes. Chan didnât want to hurt Key or lose her, and she clearly wanted the chance to truly know her first. But after what happened, waiting was no longer an option. For the first time, Chan is making one thing completely clear: she doesnât want to let Key go. She wants to be with her.â So yeah, Chanâs confession felt rushed, but when you look at everything that has been built between ChanKey, it makes some sense.
I agree, Chan set the no kissing rule to keep Key at arm's length. I think she was already falling in love with her but still had lingering feelings for Jay. Its interesting that both Jay and Key's names have 3 letters, they play instruments, and both are attracted to Chan because of past interactions. two women different ages same obsession.
When Key says "take care of Simba for me," Chan says back to her, "Simba will soon forget you" and that triggered Key. That's why she has that long pause and then ends the conversation. Also when Chan kisses Jay, she realizes that the "excitement" that Jay wanted her to feel for her, she actually feels for Key. For better or for worse, this show relies heavily on subtext. Because of this, I can buy Chan loving Key through subtext alone, but I am not sure this is sufficient enough to tell this story. I do think there might be a larger story about what love actually is because Chan has no idea about the darker parts of Key and we know that Key has an unhealthy attachment to Chan. Key is walking around with two personalities "sugar baby/confident/sometimes vulnerable Key" and the "Key" she keeps hidden. Chan only knows the one version. I think during these next 5 episodes, Key will be on the path of learning to handle her past trauma and to love all of herself and Chan is along for that ride, so she can also learn to love Key for who she really is. I think this might be the real theme of this story, but time will tell.
Things that make absolutely no sense to me: Jay has a multimillionaire girlfriend who was planning to marry her, and sheâs just going to marry a man without even telling her anything, when they were such a healthy couple and apparently communicated really well đ Chan tells Key that her kisses never get tiring (in the context we already know) and theyâve kissed like THREE times max LOL. Chan being in love with Key when literally in the previous episode she reaffirmed that she still loved Jay and made it clear to Key that she was just her sugar baby skfhsakf Excellent acting, but Iâm dropping this show for now. Maybe Iâll continue it later or maybe not đ i love things that make sense
To be fair, "kissing" doesn't necessarily have to mean on the lips.
I know you havent seen Rollercoaster, but I swear Simba is the same cat in there. Big fat cat.
The kiss being the key(no pun intended) was just a perfect touch. Chan realized quickly after she met Key that she was super into her and that's why she knew that if she kept kissing her she would love her, and at that point Chan wasn't ready to love again, after what Jay did to her. So the fact that Jay thought the kiss between her and Chan would make Chan love her again and the fact that it didn't juxtoposed with Chan then kissing Key and saying she loved her....perfect. So smartly written. Now, after the episode aired did I feel winded? Yes, it was a lot in one episode to digest between Key's scenes with her Mom and Jay's scenes with her aunt. But in just the Chan/Key/Jay of it all I am glad that we have 5 episodes to go and we can move forward. I am curious what they are going to do now with Jay? Does Namtan make an appearance? Ya know GMMTV loves that stuff. But this was a whole lot in 5 episodes, still have a lot to unwrap, but glad we have some time to see it through. The pacing of this show has been excellent.
This story has layers and layers to analyzed and to discuss. The series is really good. It gives so much to talk about. You get to see the different perspectives of everyone and how our circumstances and previews experiences mold our present thoughts and desitions. Now... for my personal thoughts. For ChanKey... I think they have been basicaly living together for a while. Because of how domestic they look. For time referente of the story we could use the restaurant. On episode 1 they are just barely talking about making a deal to open a restaurant. And on episode 5 is the soft opening. So... opening a restaurant and getting it running is not an overnight kind of thing. And everywhere you look, there are indications that Key and Simba basically 'moved in' with Chan. And we got hints all the way back that since their very first moment Key ignited something in Chan thats why she couldnt stop thinking about their first kiss, their first time. In this episode she finally admits it to herself and to Key. Also... with Jay, it was closure and she herself said it, that she would finally, after all this time of invading Chan's work, of blackmailing her friends, of barging into Chan's home without permision, Jay said that after that kiss she would let go if she didnt feel anything. As for Chan's confession. They are all damaged in a sense. They all need therapy. Now, how many of us in real life are 100% sane or without bagagge. How many of us go to therapy before getting into a relationship and carrying our past with us. In real life is a very real scenario. They are together and now they will learn to face what comes their way together. They hopefully will work on getting better together. They chose a journey together. Chan running after Key is huge simbolism because Key had been doing all the cashing, so to speak, and this was huge. This shows Chan is fully comited to Key to the point of running after her not wanting to lose her. Chan has had feelings for Key since episode 1 and has been trying to keep a safe distance in a sense. From the beginning of the episode we see Chan is missing Key, she even asks Simba how to get her to forgive her. Whenever Key walks into a space her attention goes mainly to her. She didn't want to talk to Jay privately, probably to avoid her overstepping and prevent any misunderstandings. When Key back hugs her she gets startled but when she sees is Key, she relaxes. She even grabs her hands and touches her fingers. She gives a little smile when Key says she is not angry anymore. She says "of course" when Key asked if she could sleep at her place. As if there wasn't any other answer she could give. Whe Key says Simba is "our/their" son, she is smiling. She doesn't just let Key hug her, but she holds her back. She gets worried about Key constantly. She often catches herself admiring Key and doesn't shy away from it or avoids it anymore. She lets Key take care of her. They have so much to work through obviously, there is a lot of damage as we are all somehow imperfect. They have to deal with everything going on with Key and they will get to that, its part of their journey. A journey they will now face together. For Jay... she made the desition on her for both of them, she didn't trust Chan inspite of all the years they where together. Also Jay says she came back because Chan loves her. Jay is stuck in what they where, what she gave up on her own by her own desition. She didnt consider how Chan would be affected, she only considered hoy much it hurt her. She came back and basically demanded Chan to get back with her. She invaded her work, she's blackmailing Chan's friend, she's overstepping every boundery Chan tries to set, she goes into her home without consent. Chan has asked her to let her go nultiples times and she is not accepting or respecting the 'no'. Jay is in her own way also extremely damaged.
You can see in every gaze thatâs hard for Chan to resist kissing Key. She fell for Key since the beginning but sets her boundaries because she is to scared of being hurt
I mainly only know Jamie from Pluto and Enemies With Benefits, but I love seeing her actually not be a villain here for once. I adore Devi's portrayal of Peach, but I'm becoming just as happy with Jamie's portrayal of Peach too.
I think what people might be overlooking from the show is that I don't think (at least right now) Chan and Key are supposed to be healthy. Chan and Key are an ass backwards relationship trope (think Sasha and Gorya) where the relationship starts on passionate feelings and lust and then becomes more solid and "healthy" as they get to know each other (free from exes). This isn't Us 2.0 and I don't think "Chan and Key aren't healthy" half-way through the story is bad writing, I just think that's a romance trope some people don't like....
standing applause for the three actresses.. i love their micro detail acting.. and the headshake of emi, damn..
Jay is a precious angel and deserves to be happy. đ
