Girls Like Girls (2026) MOVIE | Full Length Reaction

God, finally got around to watching this all the way through! Loved the reaction! I had just finished my freshman year of high school in May of ‘06 so this was a huge nostalgia trip for me. I definitely had an AIM (don’t remember my username though), had a Motorola flip phone, and an iPod Nano. It was an interesting time to grow up in small town Texas. Like y’all said, they really captured the feel of being a teenager at that time. (Though I remember playing a lot more game boy games lol) Funnily enough there’s a series on Prime about Tegan & Sara Quin called “High School” and a couple graphic novels too. (How I Met Your Mother’s Robin plays the mom!) I’m also curious if y’all have seen “Saving Face” with Joan Chen and Michelle Krusiec that came out in 2004. If not, it would be another interesting movie to react to. Oh, and I know y’all may not have a lot of time to read, but Hayley released a Regency era novel too and I’m kinda hoping we get an adaptation of that as well!

i loved the og music video and was waiting for the movie for like ever . i didnt even know there was a book before watching the movie. so at the end, i thought the movie was alright but i felt like scenes were missing soooo it lead to me reading the book and i loved sonya's pov and the conflict she was facing. i wished they wouldve shown more of that. i hated the fake ending lol it had me turning to my gf and saying "thai gl's would never do that" then came the after credit scene and omg i was so happy for the mini happy ending.

Oh the nostalgia hit very hard! I was going into my senior year just like the girls in the movie. Crazy to think that was 20 years ago. I agree with M&D that no one was really out in high school back then. It wasn’t really talked about much either.

This was a good watch at the end of a long week so thank you! Let me be old with yall, I don’t remember having an AOL but man the nostalgia hit hard in this movie, lowkey too soon? Lol. This movie brought back so many feels. I do like how they didn’t go overboard with the sexual scenes, it was done tastefully imo. I do agree coming from all the Thai GL this was a kind of a breath of fresh air bc it felt so authentic. (I do love Thai gl bc representation is representation). But the subtle looks and touches were super realistic and relatable. Even without the end credit scene I feel like it was a good open ended end scene. I don’t know much about Hayley but I respect how she captured all the teenage angst and feels from the early 00’s. I did expect the cliche terrible ending like all western gay media but was pleasantly surprised how good it was. Overall enjoyed the movie and the reaction. Loved how Meesh had a wtf face and Dee looking at her for her reactions. Was surprised Dee didn’t say shoot Sonya in the kneecaps tho. Side note: Listening to Tegan & Sara and questioning your sexuality is crazy.

I was kinda curious if Dee was gonna tell Meesh about Sonya’s camp scene... I mean, I haven’t read the book, but I saw on "X" that there’s a scene at the camp that makes you understand Sonya’s character 100% and gives you so much more insight into her perspective, especially when it comes to her attitude and realizing that she’s attracted to Coley. It also gives you the empathy that her character deserves. But anyway! Great reaction as always, I really enjoyed it. And even though I wasn’t in college in 2015 (I’m a 2002 baby, haha, Gen Z), I can definitely relate to a lot of the experiences you girls had. I totally get Meesh when it comes to the best friend situation, and especially Dee... Going to a Catholic school is basically a traumatic event for any sapphic woman HAHAHA. But I’m glad to know you guys see the movie with the same realism I do lmao. It makes me feel like the whole sapphic self-discovery experience is universal because there are always such specific patterns to it HAHAHA.

Have you watched “Stupid Wife?” It’s on YT as a series. I guess it’s technically western because it’s from Brazil, but it was the last thing I enjoyed from western GL’s before I was introduced to Thai GL. I agreed, there is definitely a lot more lesbian media nowadays. Aside from L Word, there was also South of Nowhere in the west, so it’s nice to see the expansion of GL series and movies internationally.
