Jinshi suspected someone in the Jade Pavilion because Jin had previously poisoned Consort Gyokuyou, so there was already bad blood between them. It's similar to how the police investigate a murder case, they usually start by looking into the victim's relationships, and anyone with a grudge is likely to be among the first suspects. As for the court lady, she wasn't completely out of nowhere. Earlier in the episode, Maomao had just been talking with the quack doctor about a court lady who had gone missing. I can understand what you mean about some characters seeming to appear out of nowhere. The anime only shows the key events, and the timeline in The Apothecary Diaries isn't very obvious. You have to infer it from the characters' dialogue and the changes in the weather or the background. I only understood it better after rewatching the series.
Yeah, apothecary diaries sometimes sneaks in plot points or lore as inconspicuous dialogue and then you go "wait, that was actually important?" 😂, but on the second watch you go "oh wowwww they laid the ground work with Easter eggs sooooo sneakily!"
This episode is actually very important, even if it doesn't seem like it
I won't comment on why this game of AmongUs episode is shown now out of nowhere. All i can say is trust the show's pacing, because it rewards those who connect the dots because this episode has a lot of fun details to notice on a second watch haha. But yeah, this is a very "random" episode that seems out of the blue and confusing, but i think there's some info to be gathered subconsciously by maomao at random points this episode :)
