The reason no one else serves Jinshi is because they get to besotted with his looks and then do creepy thinks like leave the underwear made of hair in his wardrobe - so they were âfiredâ basically because they canât keep sane around Jinshi. Just how in the inner palace, the ladies in waiting go crazy over Jinshi. Now imagine any of them working for him - they will loose their minds. Hence only Suiren works for and manages everything about Jinshiâs personal life. The servants of the inner palace were not literate, but the ladies in waiting of the concubines are literate, just not educated in office duties. The job descriptions are different, and because the court ladies have studied differently, they have a certain ego and think they are better and that cleaning is beneath them. Whereas ladies in waiting mostly come from noble families also, but other than Lihuaâs and Lishuâs ladies in waiting, we see that Ah Duoâs and Gyoukuyouâs ladies in waiting are very dedicated to their roles and donât think cleaning is beneath them. Though a lot of the concubines has servants and ladies in waiting - Gyoukuyou just doesnât trust, or her head lady in waiting doesnât trust anyone to enter her circle. Hence her ladies in waiting handle everything from cleaning and managing the parties and such.
"maintaining all my flowers in my back yard" the emperor is refering to his concubines in rear palace, not actual flowers :P jinshi's the "gardener/manager" overseeing the concubines affairs in the rear palace to weed out the bad lol also, it's not super important but the older man is not wearing an "eye patch" but a monocle (single lens glasses). It's jut an anime trope to create a lint or light reflection effect on glasses when someone is being sussy/dramatic (similar to okarun glasses in dandandan and piercy glasses in vox machina etc ) :D side note i am giggling so hard at some plot points that meesh and dee keep tripping over accidentally and then "pulling a maomao" and looking the other way because some distraction boobies popped on screen LOL
