The women working in the brothels were poisoned in the sense that they didn't know their make-up had stuff like lead, or arsenic, as part of its ingredients which we know today is very toxic. However back in the day it wasn't uncommon for toxic substances to be used in makeup.

I’m so happy you ladies are reacting to this anime. One of my all time favorites. Dee, if you want a good anime that will make you cry I think To Your Eternity is a great series to react to as well as Violet Evergarden.

i just had a shitty interview and left it exhausted, and saw this notification and you put a smile on my face to reset. Thank you! Great series btw! @meesh grab your notebook, for reasons. @Dee grab your tissues, for... other reasons. @both of you grab your seats because it can be a bumpy rollercoaster when it ramps up to the top :smirk: lol Also, word of advice @meesh the book keeper: this show pays off well for the observant, and 1 advice i can say without spoilers, is to write down the names and last names of people and who they are because it can get a bit lore-heavy similar to Game of Thrones, with all the families and the connections etc, and this show doesn't hold your hand: it just lets you solve the story yourself.
