The boys actually had it easy on the island in this version of the story. Originally, there was a man in a mask that would constantly attack them (and make sure they didn't die)
Izumi's tattoo is the same symbol that Ed has on the back of his red jacket and that Al has on the shoulder of his armor ☺️ to showcase their loyalty to her ❤️

Yeah, you guys are right: only people who have seen the Truth can transmute without a circle, and only people who have attempted human transmutation see the Truth. So basically if someone can transmute without a circle, they attempted human transmutation. I always forget this, but i was just reading some stuff, and i remembered that learning the Truth is also an exchange, and you can learn different amounts of it. The more of the Truth you learn, the more you have to give in exchange. I'm so happy to see your reactions to Izumi and Sig! Hopefully you'll be happy to know that we'll see more of them throughout the series. Honestly, they're some of my favourite characters in the show, the perfect combination of tough and loving. (Although, you still haven't seen my *favourite* character yet. But you'll know her when you see her). It's interesting to think about who is "stronger" between Ed and Izumi; i think you're probably right that she's stronger than him, but she is severely disabled by the injuries she got from attempting human transmutation, so she can't go off like Ed and Al to try to save the world. She also (in my opinion) just doesn't have any interest in that sort of altruism anyway. She's not about saving the world, she's about keeping HER people safe. I kind of like the implications of that; she's stronger, but it takes more than strength to be a "hero" in this show.
