It's funny how you think that "this time Reiner is definitely going to die", but he just keeps going. Even he himself is ready to die, but he just keeps avoiding it by the skin of his teeth
you guys have successfully understood Flochs character; and all he is doing is protecting the island. you are not supposed to like him; thats the point- but if you understand the depth of his character then you cant really hate him. atleast in the first watch- everyone hates him; but it takes 2 watches to understand him.. he is a character who you should āLove to Hateā, shows how well certain S tier characters are written in this show.
I just want to add to your comment because personally I think labeling him as a someone who āall he is doing is protecting the islandā is selling it short and misses real depth of his character. Because itās more than just āprotecting the islandā for Floch as he clearly revels in his new position of authority. Consistently opting for the cruel, extremist and ultimately domineering methods. His character is more so an example of ultranationalistic radicalization of youth and the power trip that results when those type people are given the reigns. I agree with him being a ālove to hate characterā but I canāt lie, seeing certain parts of the fandom unironically praise him is pretty disconcerting. Makes me want to just hate the character completely š.
just wanna say, having a blast with these reactions and love all the discussions. itās rare to get such a quick pace of episodes for a show but itās such a treat having it for aot in particular. this second half of the season is a wild ride, canāt wait to see your guys reactions!
Correct Meesh, the reason why Floch is considered a "good" character by some people has to do with his story arc. He went from a coward without a purpose in life to a guy driven by his goal to protect the island and to support the "devil" Paradis needs to save them in his opinion. So hate him, or love him, Floch is ride or die Eren gang.

I think people who ālikeā Floch might come from a place of loyalty towards Eren because heās their favourite character/ the MC and at this point heās a ride or die for Eren (and the only character backing him) even thought theyāre both diabolical people š

Floch has one of the better character arcs in the series and is completely necessary for the story to show that once the suppressor becomes oppressor they will just continue the endless cycle. I think most people who watch this series will admit Floch is a great character whether how much you like him or not. The problem isn't Floch it's his extremist angsty teenage fanboys who only see things in black and white. They view him as some sort of weird role model defending his country when he has become authoritarian figure who is on a power trip.
I wonder who Floch would have become if Erwins charge never had to happen. It is interesting seeing his "transformation"(I guess we can call it that). He really seems to have found a sense of purpose(even though its based on some authoritarian bullshit and hes a little too happy to kill people). People like Floch would attract weird fans, who think that they can grey-ify him in the same way they do other beloved characters who have done bad things. The motivations are just not the same.
