Attack on Titan OVA Lost Girls Part 3: Lost in the Cruel World

Sometimes you cook up wild theories so close to the truth, but sometimes you miss a critical detail like the whole episode being kind of "what if" sequence Not even Eren's death on hot air balloon in the end convinced you otherwise...

The whole episode is an alternative reality she imagined back in S1x7 to cope with the fact that Eren died. There are so many hints and contradictions that have proven that it is not the past but an entirely new reality. The most obvious one is that the day Mikasa's parents died repeated itself, however, the second time, instead of burglars knocking on the door, it was Doctor Jaegar. Then the whole sequence of events changes accordingly.

It's the first time watching this OVA for me too, but it seems pretty clear she made all of this alternate reality in her mind as a way to cope Eren being "dead" when he saved armin from being eaten in S1, although the events she tried to avoid still happened, and Eren ended up dying. Also, that mirror man seems like a metaphor for her older self trying to get her to come back to reality (IMO). Anyways, don't look too much into this as it's an OVA, and even if it's canon it all seems way too metaphorical

IVE BEEN RECOMMENDING an anime mystery for a while now: Apothecary Diaries!! It keeps losing to the polls due to competing slot, but you'll get to it! It's frieren meets mystery meets cute/sad/emotions vibe, and it's BEAUTIFUL. Another good one for you to watch would be Violet Evergarden with similar Frieren vibes and not as much "mystery" but a bit of a "unraveling of the story" situation :)

@meesh/Dee, i haven't watched your reaction yet, but i'll preface this with a note: This OVA specifically is about Mikasa's "coping" with eren's death after hearing he died back in S1E6 still in her mind (even though it's been a while), but it's watched now to be watched to avoid spoilers about the contraption that kills the titans... But it's also resurfacing now because it's conveniently timed right after Mikasa finds out that Eren's only got a 13 year lifespan (8 remaining) because he's inherited the power of the titans as a shifter, same as armin. This episode is like WandaVision, where Mikasa is telling her story and she "altered" some parts of the story like her parents dying, and the wolves attacking hte kidnappers instead. It's like an "alternate" world that she thinks she made in her head , a "what if" episode. She even thought that she' the one that caused her mom's preeclepsia or whatever it's called by wishing she could see eren and that's why their parents had to move closer to dr yaeger's house. basically she's thinking she accidentally made that correlation happen, vs cause and effect... again, it's a what if episode in her head, the collossal titan appearing and disappearing is her reality vs her imagination clashing that "it doesnt make sense" That being said, THIS episode specifically? I'll recommend that you REWATCH IT later in the show (i wont say when), and this episode will have a completely different take on it, similar to how children of forest episode with Ymir/bert/reiner/eren in the tree episode's easter eggs, or NoRegrets from levi ova etc... I won't elaborate more, but keep that episode on the backburner for now.

I hate to burst your bubble ladies. Mikasa can't see the future. However this OVA is about Mikasa going off into her own headspace and wishing for a different outcome for her parents, Eren and her life. In doing so she visualizes how events would change in her world but unfortunately Eren still ends up being Eren in the sense that he never stops moving forward toward his ultimate goal of "freedom". That being said, another aspect of Eren that remains the same is that he still gives Mikasa his scarf as an unstated statement of fondness. Also the Mirror Man scene, IMHO, is older Mikasa talking to her younger self when she's lost in her own headspace after she learned about Eren's death in Season 1 from Armin. In a sense the Mirror Man character is Mikasa's own psyche guiding her back to reality by forcing her to give up her younger's self innocence with regards to facing the cruelty of the world. P.S. Take your time with episode 1 of Season 4. The change in art style might be confusing. Pay attention to the dialogue and title of the episode to clear up any confusion. However if you are confused go back and rewatch it in English.

MIKASA CANNOT SEE THE FUTURE :D THIS WHOLE OAD WAS AN ALTERNATE WORLD, SHE CREATED IN HER MIND, after she heard armin saying, that eren died in EP 6. So u were overthinking it, but i like your thinking! The Mirrorman said everything, that was there to say. She created this world, in which her parents arent killed by the 3 dudes. they ale killed instead by 3 dogs. She is not wearing the dress in reality at the "arm scene" which is actually SHADIS, shortly befor he stepped down, to give the job to Erwin.. I really hope u guys see this cooment! I am stoked for Season 4.!!!

Not sure if you've rewatched this or not but if not this was an alternate reality. Mikasa changes a couple of things in this new reality. Her parents don't die in this one. The reason she apologizes to her mom is, Eren had stopped visiting and she wished to see him again. Eren's dad shows up the next day and sayds her mom is sick and needs to move tothe city so he can watch her more closley. Mikasa believes her mom got sick becuase of her wish to see Eren. Also the scouts were disbanded in this new reality which forced Eren and Armin to build the hot air ballon because they had no other way to get outside the walls anymore. The hot airballon doesn't work properly and Eren pushes Armin out and Eren dies. That's why he's apologizing to Mikasa.

I didn't watch this till after I finished the series, and it would have been perfect to watch right after season 3. It's a good thing you guys did it in order!
