to explain maki's skills, it's called a "heavenly pact". it's something that's granted to sorcerers at birth to make up for something they lack. in maki's case: she lacks cursed energy and the ability to see curses, so her heavenly pact gives her those superhuman physical abilities. in mechamaru's case (mentioned in the prev episode): he has a great amount of cursed energy, so his heavenly pact took away from his physical body

Ok so let me break down what "i" understand off maki/may powers and situation...This will get long so i apologize beforehand, but you seem that you were very confused so i'll be as thorough as i can : 1- Maki (one with glasses btw, cough Dee cought): - Maki is the eldest twin by a few seconds/minutes during birth from the Zen'in clan. - Maki has a heavenly packed FORCED on her (similar to how mechamaru robot guy had a heavenly pack forced on him to lose physical body power to gain remote energy techniques). Except that Maki's heavenly pact is almost the opposite: She was DENIED the ability to see or use any cursed energy or techniques herself, in exchange her BODY came out stronger and she's more agile. Think of her like she's a super soldier body like captain america. 2- May (the baddies with the pew pew guns, DEE! -.- <3 ) : - May is the youngest of those twins. - May is a bit of the opposite of Maki in regards to energy. While Maki can't see or control energy or techniques but is stronger physically, MAY is weaker physically but she's able to use cursed energy and techniques and see the cursed creatures. - May's secret technique is that she can use her own energy to create matter vs energy blasts. So when the technique is used, the "projectile" doesn't dissipate like energy blasts. - Think of May's power like a 3D printer with 1 cartidge per day. She gives it the design of what she wants and constructs it. Whereas other sorcerers use energy as energy or tecniques, like gojo said: like electricity. - And since it's using her own body's energy to create matter, it takes a toll on her body and so she can only do it once per day, so in order to gain advantage, she uses a REVOLVER (with clear 6 bullets chambers) to create the falsehood that she only has 6 shots per reload, when she ALWAYS has a +1 extra shot on reserve that the enemies wouldnt think about, once per day. So that's why she uses a revolver vs a machine gun or something, because a normal person may not be able to count bullets for a rifle or know the magazine size, so they'll always be on edge to dodge... but if you show them a revolver with 6 shots, that requires manual reload, then someone like Maki can count the bullets and assume she's out of bullets after her 6th's shot + reload + another 6th shot ... leading them to make a false assumption and fall into a trap ---> andd may uses her surprise spare magically constructed bullet for the bait and switch surprise attack. The theory: The theory is that the heavenly pact was forced on Maki because they were born twins. And because "twins are seen as a bad omen" in the older cultures because some used to think that twins shared half a soul of eachother, and thereby were inferior humans (dont ask, people back in the day used to think lobotomies and cigarettes and cocaine was good for you...). So because Maki and May were born twin, Maki and May's combination would have been what a single baby born would have had : a strong physical body and able to see/handle energy/techniques. However it's almost like that "reward" was split between the two, and the heavenly pact was put in place to ensure that Maki got the physical buffs with no energy, but May got the energies without the physical buffs. So Maki and May, not only because they're women, but also because they didn't inherit "the Zen'in clan's super special techniques" ( i wont elaborate on that, it's an easter egg that they referenced in passing here). But because they didnt inherit one of the Zen'in clan's "known famous techniques", they were already looked at as failures, and on top of that the mysoginy kicked in by the elders and they were even looked like bottom feeders to them. Maki being a strong girl that doesn't take shit from any man, she refused to be belittled and wanted to be what she was meant to be , even if the others dont acknowledge her because she dosn't see/use energy. May, however, just wanted to be a normal girl and live life instead of being stuck with the jujitsu world. But instead she can't live a normal life because she sees curses. It's ironic because it's almost like their "gifts" were swapped at birth, and May who wanted not see curses, can see them, but maki who wants to see/fight curses, can't. Maki challenged the elders and told them she's not going to stop until she gets what she deserves. The elders of her clan resent that, but instead of JUST sabotaging Maki's success, they started to also sabotage May's success... May became collateral damage to the infighting of her sister and the elders, and so May was forced into her role when she didnt want to be a jujitsu fighter, but she had to, otherwise she's be treated even worse. That's also why May hates Maki, because from Maki's perspective, she (maki) is being true to herself by not letting anyone push her down or tell her she's lesser than others... however, from May's perspective, all she sees is that her own older sister (even by a few minutes) chose her own self interest over her younger sister (may), and not only did she break her promise of Maki always being there for May, but because of Maki's stubborn personality, she enabled the elders to make May's life a living hell...May was left behind, in the shadow of Maki, even worse off than before... It's sad really because you can see the point of view of both of them: Maki's right to not let anyone tell her who she is or isn't and to do her best, but May's right that Maki didn't need to go so all out that she neglects that she's not an only child, but she has a sibling.. And it's not like Maki would have accepted playing lapdog to the elders, and it's not like May would have accepted to give up on her dream of a normal life... Because even if May wanted to follow Maki's path, she couldn't , she was weaker, Maki was always stronger and ahead.. And if Maki wanted to succeed to overthrow the clan, she couldnt let herself be weak, and slow down her pace for her sister... Tragic unfortunate relationship, but hopefully that explains what i understood. As for the Megumi and Kamo (blind guy)'s relationship to the zen'in clan; yes they're also from that clan, all 4 of them, but different family branches from the twins, and being male sorcerers made their lives different than maki/may.

Dee still calling May Maki and Maki May LOL Also yes, Megumi and the twins (Maki and May ) and the blind guy kamo are from the Zen'in clan, but think of it like a big family with different branches.

Thilde · August 8, 2025

Noritoshi (or blind guy) is from the Kamo clan, not the Zen'in clan. (I thought he was also a zen'in on my first watch tbh)

Translation: Maki is built different lmao Im sure yall rewatched the episode and seen the explanation for why she is so strong/fast

Imagine · August 7, 2025

Mai's Cursed Technique allows her to construct real matter from nothing. Theoretically, it's incredibly powerful, but because it's so draining, she's only able to create smaller amounts of matter (such as a bullet's worth) per day before becoming exhausted. She uses her technique with her revolver to give her an extra shot and trick whoever she's fighting.

Something relatively “common” to keep in mind in this series are the “Pacts.” Some are involuntary/from birth (Mechamaru/Maki), others are by choice or self-imposed (Sukuna and Itadori), and basically consist of obtaining something in exchange for something else. Example of a birth pact: Mechamaru has much more cursed energy than the average sorcerer in exchange for his limbs. In Maki's case, it is similar: she cannot use cursed techniques or see curses enemies, but in exchange she receives superhuman strength and speed. (These pacts within the series are called Heavenly Pacts.) Example of a pact by choice or self-imposed: Sukuna gains control of Itadori's body for 1 minute in exchange for not being able to use the body to hurt anyone around him. This will be useful throughout the series, and as always, I love your reactions more and more every day ♥

Maki is sooo op aha. you guys don't realise it yet, the answer will come later in the show. The thing is, think of her like a mutan who have superhuman strenght (like Tom Holland's spiderman, wolvering but without his claws and immortality or captain america but a little bit stronger). She's not that strong (yet) but that's her potential

C
Cyber · August 8, 2025

i see Maki more like a super solder captain america: she doesnt have magical powers or super human skills or spider webs or energy blasts, but she's just "physically" a superior human than her counterparts.
