I like how you point out how hard it must have been for Aang to try and raise a family on top of being the Avatar (plus the sole survivor of an entire culture). Personally, I believe Aang was a good father. He wasn't perfect, he had flaws, but that doesn't make him a bad parent. And I really appreciate how the writers show that in the scenes with Tenzin and his siblings.
Another thing that might鈥檝e played into Aang鈥檚 preferential treatment is that, before Tenzin was born, Aang hadn鈥檛 had anyone he could practice airbending with since he was frozen. I鈥檓 sure it was exciting for him to experience that again, not that that excuses his shortcomings with Kya and Bumi.
Dee: We don鈥檛 know if Roku had any kids. Zuko: *fades out of existence*
No but actually, the timeline of Roku鈥檚 daughter, Rina, is almost as crazy as Bryke having to make Kyoshi live 230 years. What happened is that they decided to make Roku be Zuko鈥檚 maternal great-grandfather at some point after 2x07 Zuko Alone was written, because there鈥檚 a timeline inconsistency with how long Azulon was Firelord. That episode said 23 years, the wiki says 75. Originally Sozin was meant to be a young man when he started the war, but by making him Roku鈥檚 contemporary (and they鈥檇 already established Roku as an old man) it meant Sozin didn鈥檛 have Azulon until he was 82. It also means that both Roku鈥檚 wife and his daughter had to have been pregnant when they were in their 70s. We saw that his wife, Ta Min, was about the same age as him, and he died at the age of 70. Ursa, Zuko鈥檚 mother, was born 64 years after the war, which means she was born 76 years after Roku died. That means Rina, Roku鈥檚 daughter and Ursa鈥檚 mother, gave birth when she was 76 at the youngest.
Great episode! I really like that the writers aren鈥檛 afraid to create flaws in the characters. I like that they didn鈥檛 make aang a perfect dad. I think it鈥檚 pretty bold to write his later life like that! I鈥檝e heard this pointed out before but if you think about it, Tenzin also became the last airbender after aang died (because tenzin didn鈥檛 have any kids yet). How stressful and lonely that must鈥檝e felt to think he had a whole culture on his shoulders when aang died. Aangs burden ultimately became Tenzins. Also Meesh said kyoshi had a daughter? Can I ask where she鈥檚 heard this because I鈥檝e never heard this! Not sure if it鈥檚 ever been confirmed somewhere.
It鈥檚 on the ATLA wiki. Her name was Koko.
I wouldnt say bad father, but flawed. I mean Kya basically spelled it out: Tenzin is the same way. for years he's been too focused on his job to really be there for his kids. but both of them did care an immense amount and tried really hard. Also Im very sure that if their first kid turned out an airbender, Katara and Aang probably would have stopped right there. But Aang mustve been very desperate to find any way to continue the airnomad legacy
Yall got any more Arcane *insert Tyrone Biggums meme*
