they're definitely showing "bender supremacy" happening in the show. maybe not so much ATLA cuz it was more like everyone against the firenation, but already in the first episode of this we had the triple threat triad members extorting the shopowner using their bending. even Korra I would say has a bit of a superiority complex at the start where just cuz she hasnt seen it, it must mean the oppression isnt happening and it leads to her invalidating the nonbenders' experience. "you're oppressing yourselves". We heard about how Mako and Bolins parents were mugged by a firebender too. ofcourse most of the exposition of this is in ep 7 and 8 but even before that there is quite a bit
Technically the 1920s in our world was post-Industrial Revolution, which occurred in the 1700s and 1800s. ATLA would have been taking place around the end of the Industrial Revolution.
We did actually see one instance of benders harassing non-benders (or at least presumed non-benders) in the first episode. The very next scene after Korra encounters the equalist in the park we get the scene with the Triple Threat Triad extorting the shop owner. I feel like those two scenes were played back to back in order to indicate that maybe the guy in the park wasn鈥檛 completely wrong.
Shiro Shinobi is the unsung hero of LOK.
