On recent controversy

I've seen controversy about my mods, so here's my comment.

I don't force anyone to pay for my mods, I give them away for a FREE subscription on Patreon. All of my mods are free, and they always will be. If you don't want to sign up on Patreon, that's your choice. However, I can also choose how and on what platform to publish free content. And I would gladly publish my free content on other platforms, if they actually provided me with the tools necessary for my work. By the way, I have open statistics on Patreon, and you can see that with 26k subscribers, I earn $241 per month. If you think my main goal is to earn money through engagement, then I'm very clearly unsuccessful lol.

All I'm getting from my free mods are recognition and donations. There's no other community platform that supports donations, or normalizes them. And the reason the mods are behind a free subscription is PRECISELY because unless I do that, there's no community, no discussion, no involvement - people just download the mod and forget about it. Writing mods when no one will even bother to comment on the best of your creations is a thoroughly miserable experience.

If you think you can do without feedback and just enjoy the process itself, I believed that as well. How did that turn out? I burned out for several months and couldn't bring myself to do anything. If you still insist that this is how I should working on my mods, then there is an easy way to experience it – just delete all of my mods and never install them again. This will help you understand how it was for everyone a few months ago.

The only kind of monetization I have, besides donations, is early access. This is a commonplace and allowed by EA rules kind of monetization. All of my mods that have ever been on the Early Access had to be tested on a small group of people - because no one would ever want a broken, buggy mod.

And stop calling my modification an "edit." That is factually wrong. I would never publish another modder's creation with my changes. I write my own code to create add-ons that extend or change the original mod's behavior. There's no work being stolen or appropriated, because I deeply respect the time and effort of my fellow mod creators, I respect their terms of use, and I always preserve all authorship and credits. Nevertheless, if they are not comfortable with my add-ons, they can reach me via DM to discuss things. Of course, I will comply with their wishes.

I hope that clears things up. Of course, you can share the direct SFS links to my mods on the Reddit or any other plarform, or use them – in case you don't want me to work on my mods anymore. But then you don't really get to complain.

Hi, I just recently found you because someone posted on one of my facebook sims groups about your twin mod and ive been here on your patreon looking at all your amazing creations and I stumbled upon this conversation and it was shocking to say the least. I hope people arent still giving you a hard time because what youre doing is what patreon was designed to do. I also would like to add I follow alot of creators and you offer so much for free members than most others and even your upgrades for supportive donations is very reasonable and lower than most. Thank you for all your hard work and its appreciated. Keep Simming!!!!

I'm really sorry that you're facing so much criticism. It's honestly shocking and confusing where all of that is coming from, anyway. I really enjoy your mods, and I'm so happy that you adopted the one with all the feelings mod and reworked it. Thank you for your hard work!

insane that people are upset at you

omg this is WILD that its an issue. You, as the creator, deserve to decide how and where you post your work. Full stop. Your mods are amazing and v grateful they are free, AND you are absolutely valid in posting on Patreon. people can make a fake email and join (full recommend people have a spam dump gmail to use in these cases if they are that bothered). Keep doing you and thank you for your services to the sims community *salute into blowing a kiss*

Okay I’m lazy and only going through my mods now but this is dumb af. Free subscriptions should be REQUIRED by all creators honestly! Perhaps, if people subscribed to everyone they download from they would actually see when it gets updated. Crazy thought, I know. 🤣 I sub to EVERYONE because it’s way easier to keep up with updates when all are sent straight to my inbox! Everyone should be doing this and stop complaining about literally FREE shit. When I saw “controversy” I worried it might be about your add ons which is so silly. Very few creators bother making anything for other creators mods and I assume that is why people are confused about what you are doing. I really hope it’s just uneducated simmers complaining and not any creators. Some creators just don’t take feedback at all and it sucks. I wish more creators made tweaks like you do! It should be normalized. Your tweaks are for things that bother me enough that I considered getting rid of the mod. They are so helpful!

Just came across your mods today when I was trying to find something to stop the damned macaroni making in cauldrons because I've gotten so fed up (literally) with my spellcaster sims trying to be the next Strega Nona, and next thing I know I'm finding mods that fix tons of things that have made me so ticked off for actual years! I'm forever grateful for you and every other modder out there spending so much time creating content for everyone, as many folks (myself included) could never understand how to do anything remotely related to creating mods or cc. So sorry that people are giving you grief about patreon and for making add ons for other mods; I'd hardly call what you do to be 'stealing' and there's nothing wrong with wanting an active community - or even wanting to make a little extra cash from early access options. All this to say keep doing as you please and know that people enjoy your work <3

this is unrelated to this post but: FYI someone named "tesswritess" is re-posting your mods and many other creator's mods on the CurseForge mod hosting site, I was looking a cure ailment with medicine mod and the curseforge link appears first when searching (at least on Bing) so I hope you and others can find a way to take action against it, especially given (to my understanding) you get paid (ad-revenue) for downloads on curseforge so they may even be getting money off this

S
SonozakiSisters · July 20, 2025

Hi, thank you for this information! It's awful that people like that don't feel guilty about their actions. I'll think about what I can do

J
JoJo · July 18, 2025

I have no idea what's going on, but it's honestly refreshing to see a creator who wants feedback and engagement from players. So many creators on Patreon lock even the ability to comment behind a paywall, which makes it feel like a one-sided exchange. By making your mods freely accessible with just a basic (free) subscription is a fair compromise, and it's great that you actually value interaction with your community. The transparency about your earnings and creative process is also appreciated. A lot of people don’t realize how much emotional effort and burnout can be involved in creating mods, especially when there’s little appreciation or acknowledgment. You're not just giving away content — you're building and maintaining something others use and enjoy, and that deserves respect.

SonozakiSisters · July 29, 2025

Thank you! I missed these dialogues with a community as well when I was a plain gamer. It's not like I blame another creators - it's more about showing that we are not just inhuman services. And I'm happy that my community appreciates this approach as well 💞

People do forget there is a person behind mods and cc, and can be very unappreciative! I've seen sites close down because people were unhappy that a modder wasn't updating files fast enough EVEN though the mods were free! I love all the mods and cc,only reason to play the sims. Don't let the haters get you down and remember without yours and people like you the sims game wouldn't have made it this far!! Thanks and loads of love.

S
SonozakiSisters · July 17, 2025

Thank you! You're right, it's crazy. I still can't believe people act so wrongly for such stupid reasons. I was horrified by the amount of hatred directed at Turbodriver and Twisted Mexi because of their modding break, not to mention that Twisted Mexi was dealing with health issues that period. Many people just don't appreciate what they have.

M
Mizu · July 17, 2025

I don't say anything, but I do love and appreciate everything that you do to make the game more fun and pleasant. Thank you very much!

S
SonozakiSisters · July 17, 2025

Don't worry, I know many people don't leave comments, though they like my content. That's why I give my mods for a free subscription, it's enough for me to see real simmers in my community instead of a plain download number. Thanks!

S
SweetySimon · July 17, 2025

I think I understand the feeling of constricting emptiness and disappointment when people don't show more enthusiasm for your work. I've been creating stories for The Sims 4 for a couple of years now, I used to post them on various FB groups in English, currently I'm creating in Czech on my blog. They are "just" pictures from the game, but many people don't realize that it takes hours, sometimes days of hard work to take them. That there are often dozens of different decorations, downloaded CCs and mods from great authors, poses that break down with any minor modification of an object, setting them up over and over again is an annoying process, but I try, I try so that readers like it, so that they are interested in following it further, so that I myself can be proud of what I've created. But then I don't get any comments, or even one that says, "Hurry up we want the next part!", no real opinion on what I've just created, and that sometimes it's like 40-60 images like that in one article. Come on, come on, come on, another part. :-/ And then I really don't even feel like posting anything, trying, because why? Instead of just playing and doing what I enjoy, I'm plagued with formalities like editing the photos, inserting them into the article, shrinking each one of them, complex alignment, attaching text, aligning and de-centering it, just... it's just stress and drudgery, it's not much fun. I have a similar problem with building houses for people, creating sims for the gallery. You make great mods and for free, so I really don't know what right people have to complain. And they say your job is just "editing"? Maybe they're referring to mods like the one I use "LittleRedSonja_ROM_HousesOfWitchcraft_(HOW)_Updated_By_SonozakiSisters", but there you clearly state that you updated the mod so it could continue to be used, which is commendable and I thank you very much for that! :-) I'd say don't be put off by those who can only criticize and never appreciate anything, but I'd totally understand if you'd just drop it and just play for yourself. It'll take away the stress and inconvenience.

S
SonozakiSisters · July 17, 2025

Oh, I feel sorry for you ;( It's a similar situation indeed. I also have a sims story channel and face a lack of involvement. That's why I decided to share it only with my friends. Regarding the "edits," they refer to my add-ons for other creators' mods. Mostly for Healthcare Redux by Adeepindigo. In the post, I explained that they are dependent add-ons with my own code, not overridden original mods. I'm glad you enjoy my mods! Thank you!

S
SonozakiSisters · July 17, 2025

Thank you! I'd be lying if I said I wasn't frustrated. I don't want the Sims community to become another capitalism-driven hell; EA is enough. That's why I dislike the concept of a paywall (even if it were allowed by EA rules), and I just want to see that my hard work is appreciated. It feels awful to be blamed for a problem I'm against.

the lack of appreciation for GODLY work modders are doing for YOUR improved gameplay is by far the most frustrating thing about sims community. yall forget about certain creators who charge money per cc item and it shows. APPRECIATE PEOPLE WHO GIVE YOU SHIT FOR FREE ASKING FOR A FREE SUB IN RETURN. it just bothers me sm man. and for the actual creator who might be reading this comment: you absolutely don't need to "adress the controversy". it's your work (game changing, literally), you decide what you're doing for promotion, etc. from the bottom of my heart, I'm so sorry you have to deal with this kind of people, I cannot imagine how frustrating it must feel to give it all your time, resources and receive negativity as a result. I hope you're doing okay, don't let this shit ruin your day/week. there are people who genuinely love you and mods you create, we appreciate your work and will be forever grateful for it. as my mama says "fuck em bitches I don't need negative surroundings"

L
Lillian · July 16, 2025

I'm so sorry to hear about this. There can be a lot of negativity in our Sims community, and it's especially displaced when it's aimed towards creators like yourself who are giving immense time, energy, and skill for very little thanks or compensation. I love Patreon as a mod platform precisely because it helps with that disconnect - I feel like I get to know creators more rather than just grabbing mods, and it's made me appreciate that work a lot more too. I really support the approach you take with your mods, including and especially early access. The criticisms about your modification mods are especially unjustified also; to me, I've always felt really excited by them as it interweaves modded features and modders themselves. Thank you so much for what you do, and please be gentle with yourself while others are being this way

S
SonozakiSisters · July 17, 2025

Thank you! I totally agree. Patreon lets you see the people behind the content, not just the service itself. I subscribe to every creator whose content I use for this exact reason. It's great that there are so many people who share the approach you described.

There are actually modded who make weird mods or steal mods and pretend it’s theirs. Or permanently paywall. They should use their energy there or just find a new hobby. It's so confusing you're under fire for an incredibly common modding practice. Games like Skyrim have entire mods that are essentially mods of other mods, either for bug fixes or extended compatibility or just aesthetic changes.

S
SonozakiSisters · July 16, 2025

Yes, I think it's beneficial for a community. You might ignore a mod because a part of it doesn't fit well with your gameplay. But with an add-on, it could become one of your favorite mods. At least, that's the only reason why I write these add-ons ;)
