Another World - 2 Year Anniversary!
… And so, ‘Another World’ turns 2 years old.
Well – in reality, it was yesterday. But that doesn’t change the fact that the game has reached a pretty substantial milestone in its life. And I feel a need to chat a little bit about that.
I think it goes without saying at this point that I’m incredibly grateful of how far this whole thing has come. I’d never have anticipated that 2 years down the line, I’d still be continuing to work away at a project that I cherish so deeply and am so glad to share to the world – and I’d have anticipated even less the continuous dedicated support that I’ve had alongside me every step of the way. It never ceases to bring me great joy to bring you guys a project I care so deeply about and I’m so glad to be able to showcase my creativity in a way such as this.
However, the main thing that’s been playing at my mind upon reaching this milestone hasn’t necessarily been the past 365 days of joy that this game has brought me – but more the changes I’ve faced personally within this time. The past year has been full of ups and downs, and I’ve had to deal with significant changes to my life in ways that I’d have never expected. Development throughout this past year has been a familiar routine I’d maintain when everything else around me seemed to be going wrong – and it’s no exaggeration to say that it kept me sane for a good couple of months. Having a project that both I and many others are invested in really helped me keep the drive and dedication to keep pulling through some pretty rough moments over the past 12 months, and I can’t help but feel grateful for having this whole project as a lifeline to help me see this past year through.
I’m still trying to continue moving onwards and find the time to balance the things that I cherish deeply – the game, of course, being one of those things – but I’ve grown to recently accept that I’ve struggled to retain the consistency with development that I’d have hoped for this year – be that due to circumstances beyond my control regarding my personal life, difficulties with finding the motivation to dedicate myself to the work wholly, or the simple increase of development time for content due to an increase in quality (sometimes I still feel that writing dialog is like drawing blood from a stone). One of my biggest hopes for the year ahead is to continue to push onwards and provide you guys with the story and characters I care so deeply about bringing you. Your continuous unwavering support and dedication has brought me through some pretty tricky times over the past year, and I owe it to all of you to provide you with a game that we all can cherish and see flourish over time.
That being said, I don’t want such a milestone to be full of wishy-washy melodramatic bullshit. I want this to be exactly what it should be – a celebration of how far we’ve all come. And so, I’d like to say a massive thank you for all for the support I’ve received over the past 365 days – and I’m looking forward to the next milestone where there’ll be so much more for me to share.
Thanks for everything,
Maelstrom
