The whole Reception/ Dining room space was converted into Troops Messing/ Sleeping quarters.

Increasing its original capacity from 554 seating to 1804 for Messing and 1499 for sleeping. Portholes were painted Black as a precaution, and after a few crossings, the lavish interiors were removed, perhaps as it was deteriorating or as things were getting really serious a way to save valuables in case of ship's loss.
