Vieuxcrest World Mod | Early Early Access
Bonjour, hi! Finally I'm ready to share this world I've been working on for months!
Introducing Vieuxcrest
Vieuxcrest is my first base game world mod! It transforms basic boring Newcrest into a lively Montréal inspired city with new street decor, buildings, functional objects and more! My vision for this world was to add some Canadian culture to the game, and share some unique things about the city I call home. Finally sims can stop at the dep to buy a bag of ketchup chips!
There's a lot of stuff included (~70+ files). I can't list absolutely everything, so here are some of the core highlights.
Vespasienne Café
Montréal has a lot of repurposed old buildings, like this vespasienne (old public toilet) which now operates as a café. Sims can order coffee, tea, and small snacks. Sims can donate to the Solidarity Meal Fund which can trigger the 'generous' trait. (Evil & mean sims can't). The solidarity menu offers generous discounts to students, seniors, and sims with less than §2000. Sims with less than §1000 don't pay.
Café Drinks à emporter
5 flavours: Coffee, Decaf, Matcha, Cappuccino, Hot Chocolate
Park Statue Fountain
Sims can rest here or toss a coin in the fountain. Maybe something good will happen if you make a wish?
Dépanneur
The dépanneur is a functional convenience store that is open 24/7 where sims can buy lottery tickets, drinks and snacks. Teen - adult sims can get nectar, 'juice', cider and seltzer. There is a secret "lucky" lottery ticket interaction which can be triggered when certain conditions are met.
Cider drinks + custom buffs
3 flavours: Peach, watermelon, and strawberry. Inspired by local Montréal brand Au Pied de Cochon. (Although the buffs don't use the word "alcohol" , you can delete the mod called "Vieuxcrest_Drink_Cidre_TuningAlcohol" to remove any implications. )
Potato Chips
4 flavours: Original, Sweet & Spicy Ketchup, Spicy Dill Pickle, All Dressed. Inspired by Canadian brand Miss Vickie's.
Playground Equipment
Base-game compatible and fully functional! In Vupont, child sims are scheduled to play in the local playground after school and on weekends. The swings have a custom tuning + buff loosely inspired by the Musical Swings project.
Light-up Splash Pad
Base-game compatible and fully functional for all ages! Helps sims cool down in hot weather. Even dogs can use it too!
Ferris Wheel
The iconic ferris wheel lights up against the city skyline each night. The object itself is bgc but requires High School Years to operate.
Summer Fireworks
An invisible object that can play fireworks vfx to light up the night. Fireworks in Vieuxcrest will automatically go off near the ferris wheel on some summer nights. It can also be used in your own builds to add fireworks for gameplay/storytelling.
Petite Library
Custom tuning (different from the Maxis version). This is designed as a communal object that doesn't require locking or ownership.
New street decorations and architecture
Animated World Icon
New 'Franglais / Frenglish' Names
Newcrest is now Vieuxcrest. Crestline Promenade is now La Crête. Llama Lagoon is now Lagon Port. Bridgeview is now Vupont. If you play in english, I added some french names to the sim name randomizer. Note: "Vieuxcrest" will only change for new saves. (English & French only)
Important Notes:
One of the important (and difficult) things was making almost everything base game compatible. I even included some functional objects that are otherwise locked behind expansion packs (slide, swings, splash pad etc). Some extra functions require packs like seasons or garden stuff, but this mod can be fully enjoyed without any DLC.
The world replacement files don't go in your 'mods' folder! If you've never installed a world or world lighting mod before, please read carefully the installation instructions. If you have installed a world mod before, just note that base game areas are in the "Data" folder instead of "Delta"
The custom text is primarily english, with some french phrases in the english version, and some simple translations in the french version. If you play in another language, some custom text may not be available!
Early Early Access
Vieuxcrest is currently in early early access. Unlike my previous early access drops, there are a few things I would like to do to 'complete' the world before I share it publicly. (like more optimization, a save file, maybe a world map artwork.) For a lot of different reasons, this was the most difficult and stressful world mod I've ever made. I truly appreciate your patience and support!

Thats brillant!!! Do you plan to rework Nordhaven and Ciudad Enamorada? They are very garish towns, but they have great functional potential.

Yes Vieux Port was one of the inspirations. I even included La Grande Roue de Montréal!

Hello there! Unfortunately, my sim cannot access the Ferris wheel for some reason. Also, item Vieuxcrest_SplashpadLight.package threw an exception that needs to be updated. I was testing around and those are the current issues. Tysm!
Hi, the Ferris wheel just uses the original EA tuning from High School Years. I don't see any issues with the splash pad light on my end, can you explain what problem you're experiencing?
Hello there! New here! Tysm for this! Every time I tried to do anything with NC find it so overwhelming. So, this is a dream. And of course, I love your other worlds. QQ. I know how to install this and that it replaces the worlds/areas files, so can it work with sunblind mod? or is it either or?
It can be a little confusing with world overrides. The simplest thing to realize is that Sunblind is a world mod. It is impossible to have two mods that override the exact same thing. So you cannot have Sunblind in Vieuxcrest, because the files are the same. But you can have Sunblind in Willow Creek, or any other world, because they have no relation. I hope that makes sense!

It's so beautiful but I cannot get it to work to save my life! I followed instructions to the letter and there is nothing in the lots. Is there supposed to be? I can see the surrounding world decor/buildings, but most of them have that miscolored thing that started happening with the DX changes. Can someone help a tech moron out?

Thank you! Tbh I don't have any specific inspiration for Brindleton Bay. But I'm open to it! I think after how challenging Vieuxcrest was, any new world mods I do in the future will be more simple, like adding objects I've already created instead of making new things.
