Do she-elves ever whiteknight for masters they barely know? *unsheathes katana* "Leave the master alone!"
Of course, if the opportunity presents itself. Masters are generally protected, but for the societies where it is less so, of course. Wood Elf maidens rarely get the opportunity, but Wild Elves and Mountain Elves the opportunity is there more, and they take it. Often reaping the benefits when the master repays her by requesting her for his next bound partner if possible.
Would you consider making a few illustrations? Thing like Thomas, members of each Elf species, his house, Jauna.
Oh Lord, I WISH I was a good enough artist for this. I don't say I was I was talented enough, because I know enough artists to know everyone has to work for those skills... I have not put in that work. My vain attempts at art before would easily show my inadequacy in the category. I don't think id be able to convey the details you'd actually want from these through the pictures. Making them not serve the purpose you'd want served.
Hey NP, Amongst Thomas's motley crew, who is the next in chain of command after Taworwen? Also who is the most skillful soldier in that group other than Taworwen?
On the battlefield, if Tavorwen went down, Creadean would be the second in command. That's the easy one to answer. "Most skillful soldier" is a hard one to answer. There are a lot of factors, and for example, saying "If there was a free-for-all, so-and-so would win" absolutely favors some skillsets over others. I don't think I could say who is the most skillful. I mean, how do you compare archers to swordsmen? How do you compare either of those to mages? It isn't an easy or fair comparison, no matter how you cut it.
Hey NP, Another couple of doubts 1) Why did the elven gods not recreate the Sun Elves? Can Thomas's progeny be sun elves in theory? 2) Why did they not recreate the fire elves? 3) Why they continued to create Shadow Elves after Yaav's betrayal? Since it is said all the gods are needed to create on elf, like Brenhellar forged Heilantu's Soul.
Alright, clearly I have explained things poorly. 1) The creation of a race of elves is not a trivial thing. For the bulk of the work of the creation biological methods are used. Which means a Wood Elf bears Wood Elf children, Cloud Elves bear Cloud Elf children, and so on. Could, theoretically, the Elven gods recreate a Sun Elf, give her to Thomas, and get that train rolling again? Theoretically. But let me ask you this: If you invested your life savings into a "totally reliable" investment, and it turned out to be a pyramid scheme and a fraud and you lost everything... how prone would you be to invest if the same person brought you basically the same concept again saying, "it'll totally pay off this time"...? The Sun Elves died. They went extinct. They no longer exist. The Gods have accepted that, accepted their failure (painful as it may be) and are reserving their strength, energy and resources for preserving their more resilient children, and dealing with their other responsibilities as gods. 2) If you build a cool stove in your kitchen and it catches your house on fire and destroys itself... do you rebuild the stove without modification and try again once you've repaired the fire damage to your house? The entire experience with the Fire Elves was costly im divine resources, and scarred two of the Elven Gods. It also ended up significantly strengthening the demonic forces when the Fire Elves became demons. The Elven gods aren't exactly giddy at the thought of trying to recreate them, when that was how it went the first time. 4) There are a lot of answers here. Divine contract. Love. Hope and optimism. The horrors that could arise if the gods abandoned biology and the soulless vessels they would be created by the former natural process of procreation. Someone is going to help the Shadow Elves reproduce and it can either be the Elven gods as they try and recover the still recoverable Shadow Elves, before they go the way of the Fire Elves... or they can let Archdemons, Archdevils, Evil gods, and eldritch horror step in and do the work instead. Doesn't that sound like a great alternative? (*Sarcasm*) Hope those answers help.
Thank you, NP. A strong addition to the tale.
Thank you! It was a work of love to make!
So Yav is becoming a demon, and demons traditionally can be bargained with... could this be an avenue to free the slaves? Trading something she wants (or wants stopped) in exchange for her blessing on the sigil revocation ritual described by Talnir? Or ceding her domain of the slave sigil magic in exchange for something, allowing any of the other gods to bless the revocation ritual in the future? She might conceivably get herself into a pickle with other entities from hell (or 'the void') and become desperate and willing to make a trade.
"Dealing with Demons" is usually a Euphemism for a a bad deal that is definitely going to bite you in the ass... or am I wrong? Devils are the ones that traditionally are sticklers for deals and if you can outsmart them you can sometimes out maneuver them. Demons and devils are different things. Both evil creatures from a version of the afterlife, but they are different.
Ok. Next to Thomas, who amongst his battle matrons is the one Kathra should take note of? Also how does an elf become a druid? Are they a different kind of elf? Are there Master Druids ? Or only She elf Driuids?
Honestly, right now none of his matrons are what Kathra would consider a threat. While they are important to Thomas, and have important duties, they are still "average" elves right now. We'll have to see if that changes, but right now the real answer is "The ones next to Thomas." Druid's are a dedicated order. They accept apprentice elves at a young age and train them until they are ready to begin service. Druids can come from any of the races, and a few orders even serve as matrons even after becoming full fledged druids. The son of a druid is the only male elf to become a druid master, because only a druid would wish to push their son into the life of a druid. Druids come from every race of the elves, but they are not a specific and unique "kind" of elves. So there are a few druidic masters, but like with most of the elven populace, they are a vast minority.
Hey NP, Throughout the series much has been written of Thomas's attractiveness as a Master and the matrons and Maidens have come to love and respect him for hid strength of character and bravery. Would Heilantu be satisfied even if she was cast out with a lesser Master. The chapter Five and Six in many instances ahow her speak highly of him. Just would like to know your point of view as the author.
I think being cast out would be devastating for Heilantu, even if she got another master somehow. She would be emotionally wrecked because she has gotten emotionally attached to Thomas, and has great respect for him, so losing him would absolutely be traumatic. If she didn't find another master her sexual needs, now awakened, would eat her alive. If she did find another master, she'd ne dealing with the bare minimum instead of the complete and utter satisfaction she gets from Thomad. Effectively she'd be on life support, barely making it. Oh, and socially, her standing would be destroyed to. So she'd be mentally, emotionally, sexually and socially destroyed. Not a great thing.
Just wondered, if Ufra is the oldest of the mountain elves and her being the last of her clan, why was she unbonded for so long? Also really like that you have given haracter to these elves. Othica being the diplomat in the cloud elves, Zynrin being the impetuous and straight shooter. Lorai snd Ufra being the diplomats and Nyik being a badass and purin being passionate and mischievious. Also looks like Othica is soon becoming the second in command amongst battle maidens next to Taworwen.
The reason Ufra remained unbonded is because the masters she was set to be bonded to died. Repeatedly. She was going to be bonded to the last master of her clan, but he died. Then she was going to be bonded to a master of the clan that adopted her, then that clan was butchered. She was scheduled to be bonded to another master, then he was turned to stone. She then faced survivor's guilt, and was struggling to be bonded because she got a bit of a suspicious reputation, though that wasn't her fault. She is happy with Thomas, because she is very confident such a powerful master won't die on her. Also, prior to the Massacre, she was not considered the most beautiful by her clan's standards. She was too solemn for the Joy clan. She didn't have the right chin shape, and her eyes were "too big". When only a fraction of the clan's she-elves got to bond, that was enough to exclude her. Thomas doesn't care. He thinks she's gorgeous.
Hey NP, I am a little confused with the newly recruited mage maidens magic. They say they are considered sub standard soldiers because they can't penetrate shield magics of the shadow elves? Can you kindly clarify?
Sure. Mages in combat have several things they need to do to be successful. Cast spells, quickly, cleanly and efficiently, defend and thwart enemy casters, and support their team. All three aspects require a lot of skill, and the area these mages struggle in is the "clean" aspect of their casting. Their spells work, and are fast and efficient, but are a little sloppy, which means an enemy caster can dismantle and counter their spells more easily than they normally would be able to. So, it would kinda be like having a quarterback on a football team that has a great arm, can throw far and accurately, and is aware of his teammates, but is terribly at watching the enemy team, leading to getting sacked a lot and throwing a lot of interceptions. They have a lot of skills, but the lack of one skill really makes them "undesirable". However, if the goal and challenges change, and the aspect of the game they suck at goes away (in this case, no enemy casters to take their magic apart) they can perform well. Since they came along for the Express purpose of fighting off sea monsters, that can't cast magic, counter spells, or unravely their work, they can do just fine. Does that help?
Is Thomas at any risk of going the way of Rasputin? Especially once his boon of creation becomes widely known, a cabal of elves who's profits may be in danger(or have other reasons to want Thomas gone) could really cause some problems for him, especially considering how he lets his guard down around elves. Doesn't matter if he's seen as a savior by 99.99% of the population, nobility never takes kindly to the kind of political disruption he is likely to cause.
That is definitely a possibility. I won't say one way or the other what the odds are of that, but it is definitely a possibility.
And you are welcome, Heilantu didn't deserve ejection, and I think you'll like where it goes.
Hey NP, since you have introduced, any chance Thomas takes matrons from the gods children like Evantshara or Vreshair? Could Spiral become one?
Well, Evantshara is one of the Gods of the Cloud Elves... so I'm pretty sure he'll have some of her daughters as Matrons. ;) (She gave him the Boon of Fortune). Vreshair... and I assume you meant Faligorin not Evenshtara... patrons of the Fire Elves... yeah... the Fire Elves... first of all, as Devils they no longer reproduce sexually for the majority of the time, yeah TECHNICALLY he could tests half-devils with him. They are hateful, incapable of love, and feel no joy or happiness. All they want is spread hate and misery, gain more power, and drag more souls to hell. They ARE NOT ELVES ANYMORE. There are no remaining Fire Elves, and the devils that USED to be Fire Elves are not redeemable, and if he tried, he'd either end up destroying the Former Fire Elf he tries to save when she turned on him, or he'd end up seduced by the powers of Hell and he'd be pulled back to his heaven (effectively dying as far as this world is concerned) before he could be twisted beyond recovery. He wouldn't really be able to "take our as a matron". It would never go well if he tried. As to Water Elmentals, like Spiral, they could... attempt to be sexual partners. But true elementals (like Dust Cloud and Spiral) don't reproduce sexually either. Some elemental type creatures, like the creature Narusil invoked when describing herself as a worthless seducer, do reproduce sexually (though their partners rarely survive) and so he COULD get one of those. Maybe that will happen in the next series.
Wonderful update. Knowing I'll probably need to wait a year for the next will be light torture
I'm sorry it takes so long. I googled it though, and professional authors usually take 1-3 years to publish a book the size of this chapter, so I don't feel like I'm doing too bad for an amateur doing it for as cheap as I do.
Thanks for the chapter NP. I am doing some rail journey so this is perfect read. Just a couple of queries. All this, betrayal by Yaav, will you be giving us the reason in the forth coming chapters? Will fire elves make an appearance during the respite? Thomas did not learn Ki from Raelyn. Will she return to teach him?
The betrayal by Ya'av will definitely be expounded on. The fire elves will probably not make an appearance, no. And yes, she will probably return and teach him, but I'm not sure when. It might not happen until the next series/book.
It was an interesting chapter. I am curious as to what your plans are going foreward for Heilantu. I am hoping it is positive and not negitive. But after she was clearly shaking up by her meeting so I hope they put her head on straight. You certainly added a wild card at the end with Truk. I am dying to see what chaos she creates in the next chapter.
Yeah, Heilantu definitely got a shock this chapter, and we'll have to see how she changes when she wakes up. Truk is going to be glorious chaos for sure.
Damnit I read to quick
I get that in my soul! Good stories are always over so quickly.
Great continuation. I think a certain dragon is about to be grounded for a thousand years
That sounds a little lenient, don't you think? Lol.
BowtieCharlie caught a few minor mistakes, and they have now been fixed, both in the Doc and in the PDF. If you don't care about the minor errors, you are fine, but if you want the new PDF it is now updated.
Thank you All! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to Everyone. :)
Merry Christmas to all and congrats to both the author and the proofreaders!!!
Thank you editors for the herculean effort! I have something to read! Hooray!
