The Vox9 iPhone app is live in the App Store

The iPhone app is out. It's free, it's on the App Store now, and it took about two months and a few rejections to get there. You can just search for it on the App Store, or use this link:

What you get, and what it costs:

WITHOUT AN ACCOUNT/LOGIN

- Play any free episode, which (as of today) is 1,382 of the 1,470 on Vox9.
- Any link works: an episode, a series, an author's page, from anywhere.
- The Vox9 landing/homepage, with the popular series and latest releases.
- You'll hear the occasional pre-roll audio ad.

WITH A FREE ACCOUNT

Everything above, plus:

- The full library at vox9.io/hub, which is where you browse everything by genre rather than following links in.
- Your place is saved and syncs, so start on the web and finish on your phone.
- Follow authors and get told when they publish.
- Like, rate and comment on episodes.

IF YOU SUPPORT AN AUTHOR OR THE PLATFORM

Everything above, plus:

- No audio ads anywhere on Vox9, whoever you support.
- Download episodes to your device for offline listening.
- Supporting an author also unlocks that author's subscriber-only episodes.

Supporting an author is whatever they set, usually $2.50-$3.00/month. Supporting the platform is $2.75/month or $27.50 for the year, which is two months free, and it's what really helps keep the lights on.

However you listen, these work in the app:

- Background and lock-screen playback, so it keeps going with the screen off.
- Sleep timer, including stop at the end of the episode.
- Playback speed from 1x to 2x.
- Scene images and synced captions on episodes that have them.
- Captions work in full screen mode for each episode that has them (most of them).

Everything you can listen to on the website is in the app, and it stays free.

One thing to know about how it works. Like Kindle or Spotify, it's a reader app: you listen in the app, but supporting an author or the platform happens on the website. There's a link to it in the app under Account, or go straight there:

Worth knowing before you install: more updates are landing within the week, so check for an app update in a couple of days rather than assuming what you install today is the finished article.
