Super Secret Graphics Reveal!
Hello you exceptionally wonderful Patreon people!
I hope that all of you are doing the best you ever did, that only pleasurable and good things happen to you all week and that all the unpleasurable and no-good things that would have happened to you this week, instead happen to that one guy at work!
(You know exactly which one.)
The Donkey Kong video is finally released and I’m quite happy with how it turned out.
This one took me a bit longer than expected for two completely separate reasons.
So first, editing it took me a bunch of days longer than I initially thought, which delayed the entire release by over two weeks.
So why would a couple of days of extra work delay the video by weeks one might ask?
Well, the thing is, I actually tried to plan my summer vacation in such a way, that I am on holiday right before the Switch 2 release, so that I am fresh and shiny, when the fresh and shiny console arrives.
And of course I failed miserably at predicting the release date and ended up booking exactly during release week!
Hooooor …. rgrnglrh.
Luckily it ended up not mattering anyway, so whatever!
However I was hoping to get the DK video out before I go on vacation
That’s the one reason it’s a bit delayed, the other one is sadly a lot less pleasing.
As some of you probably already know there has been a school shooting in Austria in the city of Graz a couple of days ago and the city of Graz is where I live.
The affected school wasn’t the school I graduated from, but I used to help teaching some acting classes there years ago, know half a dozen people that graduated there and happen to have a lot of teachers in my friend group, all with a lot of ties to the school in various ways as well (one of them actually had a former student wounded in the massacre).
Luckily no one close to me was directly hurt by the catastrophe but having something so terrible happen so close really left me behind with a very strange and numb feeling of dread and senselessness that I (and honestly the entire city) had to chew on for a couple of days.
There really isn’t much to say about this, other than that it’s terrible, that I hope nothing like this ever happens again and that I am just eternally sorry for anyone who lost a loved one to this senselessness.
Alright.
So what is next on the channel now that the Switch 2 is out in the wild?
Well, we will take a look at Mario Kart World of course!
We’ll have another challenge run/critique mash up video about MKW - similar to what we did with Odyssey.
I already started routing the whole thing and I am really looking forward to it!
Finally - the video that accompanies this post today is actually not an audio version of this post, but it’s own very thing!
You see, over the years I ended up creating thousands of images for the channel, many of which actually never made it into a video.
So I recently took a look through my graphics folder and as it turns out there are some really funny graphics in there that never before were accessible to the public (and that I sometimes have no idea what I even made them for).
In the video we are going to take a look at those and speculate a bit what they originally were intended for and why they never made it into a video.
Finally finally - as always - a huge and gigantic thank you to all you wonderful people for your support!
You guys collectively rock and I hope you know it!

Coming back to this post to say that I FOUND THE VIDEO YOU WERE LOOKING FOR at 4:30 by pure chance. "Deconstructing Mario: How Mario Bros U handles difficulty"

This whole graphics thing reminded me of one thing that I've wondered for years: How many entries did the last copy of the Dangerous List of Evil have, and what were they?
Heya, I can actually answer this! It’s 18+1/2 entries! Namely: Don’t … Jump. Turn around. Touch the floor. Run. Leave the corridor. Stop. Cross the line. (Cross the line + counting as 1/2 an entry). Touch the coins. Ground pound. Let the cannonball escape. Kill the enemies. Forget a single coin. Hurt Mario. Kill Yoshi. Jump four times. Look right. Hit the ceiling. Leave the glitched clown car. But I don’t think we’ve reached the end yet!
The downside of having a single big monolith folder that contains absolutely everything is that it gets literally impossible to work with it in any meaningful capacity. However, the plus side is that whenever you do need to search for something in it, you're inevitably gonna stumble over some ancient shit from twelve years ago that you completely forgot about, and that can be such a big nostalgia kick. Personally, I do try to avoid monoliths as much as possible (though failing pretty badly in some areas, like open browser tabs), but I do take a lot of backups of my data and still have files on this PC dating back to like the mid 2000s. One of those days, I'm randomly going to browse through some of those files and am gonna get such a kick out of it. Can't wait to remember what kind of cringe stuff I produced when I was 14. On that note, reading some of my ancient forum posts from around that time is also quite the adventure. For example, back in the days, I used to present myself as a Nintendo warrior and Sony hater, and these posts are so incredibly funny to read today. I also used to accuse Sonic games of stealing from Zelda. (Twilght Princess has a sword? Well gee, that's why Sonic and the Black Knight also features a sword. Twilight Princess has a werewolf? Well gee, that's why Sonic Unleashed also features a werehog).
Loved the look through the graphics folder, as someone who's been watching for quite a long time now, it's super cool to see all the random art and stuff I'm pretty sure the fuzzy coupon was used in the super mario maker 2 power up ranking- when the fuzzy supply got super low, terrifying stuff
I think you're right and the fuzzy coupon was part of a "we ran out of fuzzies" bit in a ranking video. Might have been "4 fuzzies and a fuzzy coupon" or something.
Hopefully there are other videos about your graphics and little trade secrets in the future, really enjoyed this one. Speaking of the DK64 video I have to bring up something: I think it's the first time I heard someone talking about the break up between Nintendo and Rare not like it was the "Worst Event in Gaming Hystory™". At least I never heard someone presenting it like you did and that was not only interesting, but also made a lot of sense (especially because it can help understand why Rare and Microsoft never really jelled together until.. Sea of Thieves?) Looking forward to your next videos!
Looking at these old graphics was fun! I'd enjoy seeing more 'behind the scenes' videos like this. I also really liked the DK video! I'm not sure why you got so many comments saying that the new Bananza trailer goes against your thesis. I think the fact that the DK rap heard there (and in the Mario movie) only contains the "Donkey Kong is here" part is actually more evidence that Nintendo doesn't want us to remember or play DK64. They just want us to feel a vague sense of nostalgia for the series.
Yeah, like "Nintendo is playing nostalgia while also sanitizing its history" isn't that far from "nintendo is hoping you'll forget its cringe teenage years" as a point.
Having a mass shooting happen so close to home is absolutely terrifying, I’m sorry you and your city have to go through that.
