I can see everyone has explained what's happening at the end, once you recognise that Leif has been looking for Thorfinn all these years. I just wanted to say that I don't think we mind when episodes are long - here for the yapping. V excited for the second half. Peak storytelling.

i personally interpreted askeladds flashback to thors as him thinking about who he would consider king-like and would prefer to follow instead of someone like canute

Its so interesting to see your "historic interest" blooming up more and more through these episodes, ofc also supported by the geographical closeness to the scenery.

At the end of episode 5 or something I can't quite remember the episode lief promises Helga thorfins mother he's coming to find him, that scene is put there to show he is actively searching for thorfin with time passing his hair has turned grey as well. Also all the stuff sorta chucked at the end I reckon is because it is the mid way point of the season as a sort of where these characters are at recollection. Sorry if I've worded that awkwardly.

The person in the end is ofc Leif, he told Thorfinns family that he would look for Thorfinn, this is just a reminder that Leif is out there trying to find young blonde boys hoping that one would be Thorfinn

This is half season thats why it appears that all the threads will meet in the coming episodes , and after this episode a new intro + outro will be in place, the old man is leif the sailor dude from the beginning , that girl is just a random that leif thought was thorfin as he is looking for him since the day thors died, and those people that set the trap are not just random mountainers, they are the people of a separate kingdom inside wales that askelaad wants to cross to from the kingdom that helped him( that general giantus guy)

Yep, the old man you saw at the end was Leif, who was trying to locate Thorfinn as that's what he promised Thorfinn's sister and mother he would do. I think they just gave us a lil showcase of some of the characters and their current journeys, as this was the mid-season finale for Vinland Saga season 1.

It’s been suggested that Artorius was a basis for the legend of King Arthur, yeah. Can’t say how historically rigorous that is, but it was a theory at some points in time! Also, the next few episodes are gonna do a lot for you, I think! There’s something you’ve really been looking for in these eps that you’re about to get in quite a hefty dose.
