Death Note - Episode 17

L definitely does notice the personality shift for sure
It's so interesting to think about how gaining a previously incomprehensible amount of power might either change a person, or amplify what's already inside a person. Misa seems like one kind of person that stayed the same with and without a death note
I've always wondered what makes Light so different when he has no memory of the Notebook as compared to how he was before he came into contact with it. He spews on about how the world is "rotten" and that it needs change, but suddenly when he forgets it all he's all about stopping Kira, who's brought the exact change he wanted for the world. Is it just arrogance? If he's not the one doing it, nobody should?
There's also a fair amount of time between them, since he graduates school and starts going to college, with a few time skips in there. Your morals and beliefs can change very quickly at that age while you gain maturity and a better understanding of the world you live in. That's my take on it
I think I'm gaining a greater appreciation for this part of death note as I've grown up with manga and anime. It gets really absurd but I love these kinds of leaps that only this medium seems to make, idk whether its time constraints or a purposeful pacing but I've learnt to love it. I think you're right where this kind of falls into the aot vibe and the absurdity does match, obviously with this show it is a shift from the strict and makesense world that we started in, but like you said, when they wrote Light (and Light wrote himself) into the corner with L, I really like how they dove right into this new dynamic. I've honestly forgot what happens from here so its gonna be cool watching along.
watching people discover prison abolition theory in real time is always funny. No, prisons aren't rehabilitation. They are punishment (and slave labour) . its why we consider mental health (eg not guilty by insanity ) it is fascinating what prison abolitionists would do with light if this were real. He can't be rehabilitated cause he doesnt remember, is mentally well adjusted and already believes Kira is wrong. Does the death note compel its users? or is it just stanford prison psychology. in an earlier episode he commented on how publicly everyone is against Kira because that is the socially conditioned and expected answer but pointed out how Kira popular on the internet where ppl can be uncensored and anonymous. Is his stance against Kira now an act he feels he must put on cause they suspect him of being Kira as far as he knows he isnt or does he actually believe that. Does he remember saying that? would he just forget WHY he said that or forget about it completely cause he was speaking to Ryuk. he would still believe that though internally no? does the dn alter your beliefs ? We see lights morality on Kiras actions change. why is that.
Light now looks more natural than intimidating and try to analyse his personality as well it gets so interesting and it reveals something about the death note
