I cannot wait for you to get deeper into this show
I swear everytime you repeat this episode, it hits you and you start crying. It is the tension of the whole episode then it builds up and the drop of music and character expressions
i found the part where Thors tells Leif to make sure that his head is brought to Sigvaldi to be quite upsetting?? it made me think about how he had bought a dying slave (even though it meant giving up resources that the family needed to survive the winter) to stop his body from being brought back to the place where he was enslaved and subsequently be desecrated to be made an example of. there's something kind of scary about the lack of autonomy one has over ones body in death! (got spoilers but it kind of reminds me of the way Ned/Robb's bodies are dismembered/paraded/mocked in game of thrones). then of course there is the fact that burials were such an important ritual for vikings. a bit of a ramble sorry, watching this but me in a bit of a reflective mood lol
I get exactly what you mean - I think one of the threads I’ve always felt that runs through this story is about questions of the body, both in life and death, and the control (or lack of control) over what the body is used in service of, and how others might stake their claims on it. Obvs can’t go into too much detail (don’t want to spoil anything!) but I felt it SO strongly in S2
it's so telling that before the duel Thors asks Askeladd if he has a wife and children. the fact that he started to 'change' after his daughter was born, that he's so insistent that Thorfinn has no enemies in life and that killing is not something to be taken lightly.. he's trying to lead by example and be honorable for his onlooking son, but you also get a sense that having a family that he loves so deeply has softened him and made him that more aware of the gravity of taking a life :( to be loved is to be changed or however the saying goes
gotta understand that Thors was thinking about the survival of everyone else. If he kills Askeladd they're cooked. Everyone and the village is safe because he died
chillsss every single time
18:25 Yes he was killing people in that war but the change occurred after he escaped/ was the reason he escaped
I love an incredible character that can haunt the narrative but its also so unfortunate to lose them so soon
Seeing your stress is killingggg me😭😭
Yes, the execution was and continues to be immaculate. So excited to continue. My favourite part is Askeladd asking Thors to be leader, and the expression he makes when he comes back to reality, realising that could never be possible
I think a lot of people fail to realize how smart Thors actually was. Could he have taken all of them down? Yes, but not without loss. Instead he chose to give up his life to spare each and every other person there. Not a single one of his or Leif's crew were sold into slavery. Every single one of them had the opportunity to return home to their loved ones with the sole exception of Thors.
i tear up at thorfinn's screams everytime i rewatch this episode. the voice acting really is top tier
The show premiered with the first 3 episodes, so getting to this just a week after was rough.
start of the show right here
Can’t wait to watch after work
Maan am i the luckiest? A good refresh for my lunch break 😍
