I had a funny idea about a coat that would be helpful to these squishy characters that always need to be protected.

This does sound like a very fun magic item. For the Rare Variant, I almost want it to have to stay on whoever swapped, but they have full access to the magic. This way it sort of becomes that Futurama episode with the mind swapping, and you have to figure out how to get the cloak back on the right person. Or even have your own allies swing on people to FORCE a transposition. Otherwise, I might have it just make an illusory cloak on the ally just to keep track of where it is.
