What are your thoughts on Shawn?

I was ultimately going to leave Shawn out of this book but I feel him not being there would affect how I'm trying to portray his character. What do you think about Shawn and his role in the story? Do you like him? What would you want to be done about his character? Do you like the side story about Shawn so far?
