SubZero Returns + Mercy Update Q_Q
Hello Dragon Readers,
Thank you for your patience these last few week. As some of you may know (from my socials), I asked the WT team to delay the return of the series by one more week so as to let me deal with the passing of my sweet, 16 year old dog, Mercy. (Obviously I've been ugly crying in waves these last few weeks but I'm better now and more accepting of the grief now.)
Back when I found her (near a dumpster on a family trip) she was already 5-6 years old (according to our Vet at least). I named her "Mercy" after the Overwatch character because I was obsessed with watching streamers back then. She was not very merciful with other dogs, but she was an angel to kids and people. We also quickly learned that she suffered from seizures and heart problems. Despite all of that, I like to believe she really lived life to the fullest as I would often catch her sneaking food from my cats whenever I got too distracted working and then snoring away like nothing even happened.
These last few months, she'd started to develop more and more health problems... in particular coughing fits due to her heart. My parents had taken her on their yearly beach trip, but prematurely called me to say they were returning home early in order to make her comfortable again (they had noticed these last few days she was really weak and struggling).
When they finally got home after the 6-7 hour drive, sweet Mercy was excited to recognize the house again. She walked inside, greeted my sister who pet her hello. My sister moved her to her little dog bed and within minutes... Mercy died.
It's quite wild to me recounting the story because it was so sudden my parents weren't even aware (My dad was still parking the car if you can believe it). However shocking, I like to think the relief of her being home, at last, is what helped her move on.
I wanted to share these pictures with you and remind everyone to embrace their pets for the short time they are here with us.
Thank you again for your support and understanding! SubZero will resume tomorrow night, September 13th! (Stay tuned for some previews) There will be a 2 part Series Finale + Epilogue to top off the series!
Thank you for being in my life, sweet girl. Rest easy.

My condolences June 🫂🫶🏾
I've had indoor cats my whole life and just two dogs. A pekaneze poodle and a Chow Chow. Wouldn't trade their love and compassion for the world. Once my two 18 year old cats have passed I'm going to take a breather. 50 years of cleaning cat boxes and dog poo is enough for little while. They are family and I will miss them. My heart goes out to you. Remember the good times and know they are not in any pain and playing with friends in heaven. ❤️❤️
*HUGS* oh my gosh got me crying here. I am so sorry about your sweet Mercy *HUGS* Sending you lots of love. 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
I’m so sorry for your loss, June 🫂 It is truly the same as losing a human family member when you lose a beloved fur baby. I felt so moved by how you saved her when you found her, and how she made it the entire stretch home to finally come to rest where she found true peace and belonging. 🥹 You created such a beautiful, safe space for Mercy, and I know she’s happily playing in doggy heaven remembering you, sending you kisses and cuddles. 🥰 May you find peace and rest as you continue processing your grief and loss.
As a massive animal lover and kitten foster parent, no matter how many I save the ones I lose still hurt the same. But I’ll keep doing it even if it means loving an animal so completely for just a short time. Our pets are there for us through so many challenges in life and all the good time - and help our lives with cuddles, giggles, and loyalty. The hurt is always worth the love I’ve come to learn. I’m so sorry for your loss and I hope you take care of yourself 🩷
That’s such a bittersweet story🥹 I’m so sorry
