Hope you are doing okay with this going on; Just wanted to come by and say that I REALLY like how you artstyle developed and came along! Your comics are super pretty nowadays ^-^

Condolences, Azul. I understand how mixed feelings make grief trickier, and sometimes even stealthier. But it still hits you even if it hits differently.

Grieving for what could of been can be hard. I'm sorry for what you weren't able to have.

I had a similar situation with my father and no-contact with my family, so yeah, I feel you there. Sorry for your loss.

When my step-siblings’ deadbeat bio dad died, there was lots of mixed feelings. My step mother was partially thrilled that it felt like “a war was over” and she could be at peace, but knew she couldn’t show that type of excitement to her kids. But I think we all knew it. The eldest brother prob grieved the most, but he was also just angry that he wasn’t able to get his father to change or apologize for things he had done. I think he wanted/hoped for some sort of closure, but now would never get that. The middle one dismissed it entirely, he had gone no-contact and had 0 hope of him becoming a better person. Pretty much had a “good riddance” attitude. Prob joined his mom in “secretly celebrating”. And lastly my youngest sibling, she was still only 11-12 at the time. She felt the most indifference cause on one end, it was her father, but on the other, she didn’t really have any/many fond memories of him so wasn’t sure how to feel. I talked with her a lot on it and explained to her it’s ok to have mixed emotions. I guess my point is, everyone has their own valid reasons for how they respond to a death, whether they were close or distant, loved or fought, I hope process your grief and emotions in whatever way brings you comfort ❤️

Something similar happened to me last year. I was very-low-contact instead of full no contact but still. When he died, I kept crying but in my head and heart I kept just thinking "It's really annoying that I'm crying when I'm not sad." Grief is weird. You do what you gotta do, and whatever you feel is perfectly valid even if it's confusing.

Wow, that must be heavy! Sorry about the no contact part and the loss. However it's good that you (and other authors) mention it. For me, it made me realize one day I wanted to be supportive of my kids no matter what. Before I took that for granted, I naively didn't realize others where not so supportive. So I try to say it aloud now. Which I still suck at. The more I care about people, the hardest I find it to talk to them. But I try now. And that's a direct consequence of your comic.

Oh wow, that must have been/still be very emotionally complicated. Taking care of yourself is first priority, I'd think

I’m so sorry to hear that, please take care of yourself!! 🙆‍♀️

Now the no-contact part of your life is behind you. I hope you can grieve the loss of that relationship fully now by remembering what good parts you can, and be secure in the knowledge that you did what you needed to do to have a better life. Many hugs as this still can be a difficult time with conflicting emotions.

That's understandable. Unfortunately, I suspect I'll be going no contact with my family as soon as I'm able to stop living with them.

I'm sorry to hear that. Sometimes the best families are the families we find.
