[Update] Novum et Damnatum - October Preview

Hi everyone,

after a lot of work on the "Chaos Primaris homebrew", I happy to announce that I'm likely going to release it this month! Unlike with any of my other homebrews, which are usually released in an early functioning version and grow over time, Novum et Damnatum will come out essentially fully finished from the get-go.

Let's see what we got so far:

The Chaos Primaris Space Marines

Black Crusade is usually set in the "old-school" Warhammer 40k setting, way before Primaris Space Marines and the Great Rift were even a consideration. Wanting to allow people to play in that time, it felt natural to also include the option to play as a Primaris Space Marine, one of the incorruptible and somehow Chaos-Resistant, new Adeptus Astartes. Being the "superior" Space Marine, they should have that reflected in their inherent stats and special abilities.

Right now, only actual Primaris from the Indomitus Founding are considered here, so neither Firstborn crossing the Rubicon nor Chapter aspirants being made Primaris instead of Firstborn.

Naturally of course, the question arises why a Primaris would fall to Chaos in the first place, and to answer this, and to generally rework the Explore the Passions system present in Black Crusade, I have reworked those in full, just like I did with In Nomine Populi.

As you can see, I've considered that Belisarius Cawl might have used Traitor Geneseed, whereas I want to briefly mention the Legion Legacy mechanic.

Legion Legacies have the player character select from which Legion their character's geneseed is from. Right now, this is mostly just flavour text, but it will include slight bonuses, maluses and allow for Legion locked talents down the line.

Primaris War Gear

As you probably know, the Primaris Space Marines came with a lot of fancy, shiny new war gear, often surpassing Firstborn weapons but are generally speaking highly specialized. Well, I've made an effort to include all the Infantry weapons added with the Primaris.

Now as the FFG systems put great emphasis on making some weapons feel unique by giving them special functions et cetera, getting more common with the later systems like Dark Heresy 2e, I too wanted to include thematic abilities and use-cases for the Primaris war gear I included.

Naturally, as many a Primaris weapon is a lot larger and strictly designed to be used by Primaris and not Firstborn, this is a rather upsetting restriction for all the Firstborn Chaos Space Marine players here.

Naturally of course, Chaos finds a way, and this introduces the improved Weapon Modification System:

And of course, how can we forget Power Armour? The MKX Power Armour platform has several distinctive patterns, technically intercompatible but that's something to consider for later. Now with the Gravis armour being superior to Terminator armour in the tabletop at a certain timeframe, and in general having a different use-case and bonuses, I want to showcase the Gravis Power Armour in Novum et Damnatum specifically.
