modified graphicsrules.sgr
info
this file enhances the quality of in-game shadows by smoothening them. your lighting setting needs to be set to high or very high to see the change.
this file also disables the dark lines (ambient occlusion) that appear around the edges of objects, walls, floors, and ceilings.
how to install it (windows users)
locate your TS4_x64.exe. if you use the EA app, it is typically at C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin. if it is located elsewhere and you have no idea where it is exactly, simply right-click on The Sims 4 icon on your Desktop and select 'Open File Location'.
there, you will see the default GraphicsRules file. simply back it up and replace it with my version.
how to install it (macOS users)
in Finders, press cmd + F and type in 'The Sims 4'.once you see 'The Sims 4.app', right-click on it and select 'Show Package Contents'. the default GraphicsRules file is located at Contents/Resources. back it up and replace it with my version.
misc info
MXAO was disabled when the photos above were taken.
you need to repeat the process whenever you update or repair your game.
do not rename the file, otherwise it will not work.
if you use reshade or gshade, you must turn off edge smoothing in your game settings and rely on FXAA and SMAA instead so that the shaders targeting 3d objects like MXAO, DOF, AdaptiveFog, and Bloom can function properly.
tou
do not re-upload or monetise the file in any way, shape, or form.
as always, let me know should there be any problem with the file.
enjoy ♡

update (august 13, 2025)
i was recently informed that the file is not compatible with The Sims 4 on macOS, and it very much seems to me that GraphicsRules on macOS should unfortunately be left untouched. i apologise for not thoroughly testing the file beforehand.
======================================
i am currently taking an indefinite break from the sims and the game is no longer on my pc. if any issues emerge from any of my creations; unfortunately, i will not be able to fix them for you. nonetheless, you can still submit your questions regarding my creations and i will try to answer them as soon as possible.

If I add this to my config folder instead, do i need to replace this in the bin and replace it after every update/repair?
i’ve never tried that myself but if i remember correctly, someone on twitter once said that the default one in the Bin folder doesn’t need to be replaced if my file is already in the Config folder.
ผมจะเอาไปลองดูนะครับ พอไม่มีเงาดำๆ มันดูสวยมาก :) เห็นมาซักพักแล้วแต่ยังไม่ได้ลอง
จัดไปครับ
Is this going to need updated for the 8/19 update?

Please read the part at the bottom of this post. Ty.
Does it conflict with the sunblind mod?
No. In fact, Sunblind was used when the photos were taken.
so subtle but so gorgeous! ty for this ♥️
You’re welcome. 🤍✨
Unfortunately, this didn’t work for me. It was making my game glitchy with flickering shadows 😟
Looks like I have to make a tutorial on how to edit the file manually. 😩
thank you so much for the amount of detail you put into making this game everything it should be!
you’re very welcome, simone. and thank you so much for always supporting me. 🤍🤍🤍
