Side Story 7 - The Bedrock/The Alloy

A/N: It's been a while, but I'm alive, and still working on the Craig side story. Unfortunately, I have exams and so everything's been put on pause, but I have this small side story about the rest of the Regi trio that I was essentially forced to make to answer one of my Q&A questions, so here you go.

Oh yeah, a trigger warning for human rights abuse, I guess.

SIDE STORY - THE BEDROCK

NAME: REGIROCK

CLASS: PAC-Z

STATUS: DORMANT*

Description

Regirock stands as a formidable entity, possessing a sturdy frame and a rugged, rocky exterior that appears a mixture of beige and orange. It is 14’2 feet tall and is predominantly composed of what appears to be some kind of bedrock when analyzed, but unlike real bedrock, it is nigh indestructible to anything but the most powerful attacks. The exterior can be chipped, but Regirock will subconsciously make use of nearby rocks to heal itself, and after becoming a part of its body, the new material will instantly become as tough as the rest. Regirock is therefore incapable of suffering any permanent damage or of being terminated. Pokeballs do not work on Regirock and only serve to agitate it. Like all of its siblings, Regirock’s face is dotted with yellow lights. This one dons an ‘H’ pattern that dim or flash depending on Regirock’s current state and are off when it is dormant. Regirock’s vocalizations have been described as low-frequency sounds that echo a rhythmic and mechanical resonance, reminiscent of grinding stones. Unlike Regice or Registeel, Regirock’s voice is not known to ‘glitch’. The reasons for this remain unknown. The immediate vicinity around Regirock is characterized by a perpetual dry heat, creating an inhospitable environment for most life forms. Regirock is capable of manipulating all rock around it and of seamlessly shifting its state from solid to molten lava. It can animate rocks, creating ‘Golems’ that seem to do its bidding and can extend the range of its capabilities like relays and Regirock generates a continuous earthquake every time it awakens. Like all of its siblings, Regirock is known to interfere with Teleportation, although it is the worst at it and psychics can sometimes manage to slip through. Those who do not turn into stone immediately.

Containment Procedure

Regirock is contained at the ████ ████ █████ on route 228, north of the Battle Frontier. Historical records do not go far enough to know how Regirock reached this place. Its chamber has been cleared of rock five hundred feet in every direction and its walls are reinforced with a thick layer of blast metal to disallow the use of Regirock’s power in the first moment it awakens. Cameras are kept pointed at the body at all times and Regirock is to be observed 24/7, particularly on ██████████ when the ritual on █████████ is being done.

Regirock is to be kept in its chamber at all times. No personnel below the rank of League Commander or Class 5 Scientist may enter the chamber save for experimentation. Regirock is kept asleep, and will stay asleep as long as █████████ lays dormant in █████████, but it is known to have periods of agitation during the ritual that we still do not know the reason for. The working theory is that the few seconds █████████ awakens during the ritual is enough to sometimes wake Regirock or its siblings from their slumber. Do not approach unless Regirock awakens or you have direct permission from a Commander, a Class 5 Scientist, or someone of higher rank.

Experimentation Log #34 (Doctor █████)

Date: June 3rd ████

Deathrow inmate ██████ ███ with suits built to resist the heat emanating from Regirock’s form and was kept there in incremental intervals starting at one hour until effects were detected. No injuries or harm was detected on their body, but after staying for longer than three hours, inmate started describing a feeling of ‘sluggishness’ at their extremities. The decision was made to pull them out of the chamber.

Date: June 10th ████

Sluggish feeling described has been slowly fading, so a decision was taken to place ██████ ███ inside of Regirock’s chamber once again to find the tipping point of no return.

Date: July 23rd ████

We found it. It ended up being six hours and thirty-three minutes exactly. The inmate’s lethargy is growing worse by the hour and their skin is beginning to fade in color and to harden.

Date: July 25th ████

Things have been moving quickly. The inmate’s sense of sight was the first one to go, with their eyes turning to stone. Then, they found themselves incapable of any but the smallest of movements with their entire body being described as ‘numb’. We are still convincing them that they will soon be cured, so they are content to help us. After touch went smell, with ██████ ███ describing it as the smell of ‘burned charcoal’. It is our understanding that they are turning to rock.

Date: July 26th ████

The transformation is complete. Inmate died at ██:██ yesterday night and their entire body has turned to bedrock, though it is still able to be pierced, unlike the rock on Regirock’s body. If Regirock has to be fought, recommending swapping in personnel after the five hour mark.

Incident Report #2 (Doctor ██████)

Date: July 26th ████

Doctor █████ has perished, so I will take over his duties from henceforth.

The inmate he was running experiments on came to life as one of Regirock’s ‘Golems’ and killed ██ League personnel members before being put down, mostly due to it taking us by surprise. Requesting new personnel to fill the vacant positions, and a more comprehensive casualty report has been put below. It was somewhat weak, and I estimate it to have been around the 7th badge level. From this incident, we can extrapolate than any living being Regirock stands near to is transformed into one of its ‘golems’, though it is unknown if it being awake would speed up the process. Champion Radetic is to be informed of this immediately.

SIDE STORY - THE ALLOY

NAME: REGISTEEL

CLASS: PAC-Z

STATUS: DORMANT*

Description

Registeel is made entirely of a metal akin, but that is not exactly steel, and it is characterized by its bulbous, resilient build and metallic exterior. It is 11'9 feet tall, and its properties are currently unknown, but it is impenetrable to any attack that have so far been tried. Registeel is therefore incapable of suffering any permanent damage or of being terminated. Pokeballs do not work on Registeel and only work to agitate it. Parts of Registeel’s body, like its arm and center, appears made of some darker metal that we have not been able to identify yet, but it is flexible and nimble. Like Regice, Registeel’s body is free from any impurities and is as clear as a mirror. Like all of its siblings, Registeel’s face is dotted by yellow lights. This one dons a hexagonal pattern, but it also has three lights each on its arms that are used to communicate, no doubt with its siblings. Registeel’s voice has been characterized as ‘white noise’ commonly heard on television, but it has also been heard to resonate with metallic clangs or the hum of some kind of machinery inside of it. The immediate vicinity around Registeel is characterized by a stable ambient temperature, devoid of extreme fluctuations commonly associated with its siblings and can therefore be approached without protective gear, though the smell and taste of rusting metal is known to afflict those who go into its chamber. Like all of its siblings, Registeel is known to interfere with Teleportation, and those who attempt it turn into iron immediately. Registeel is continuously generating metallic ore around itself and is capable of manipulating all metallic ore including bauxite, beryl, iron, calcite, magnetite, hematite (see below for full list). Registeel is capable of manipulating blood through iron and can therefore create a ‘kill zone’ four hundred and sixty feet around itself where all individuals with blood will die within a minute. Electronic devices tend to malfunction in that same range. It can attract of repel living beings with any amount of iron in them, even when in extremely low concentration like humans and is generally considered to be a ‘lazy’ fighter in the two times it has broken out of containment, with it mostly reflecting attacks and dragging things toward itself to kill.

Containment Procedure

Registeel is currently located in the Iron Island at █████ island, deep below the ground. Seeing as no method has been found to stop it from creating metallic ore around its chamber, Registeel’s containment chamber is kept the same as it was found in: a cavern around ninety feet up and across that appears to be a perfect square. Seeing as electronic devices malfunction around Registeel, its body cannot be observed through cameras. A guard must be swapped in its chamber every two hours. Historical records do not go far enough to know how Registeel reached its chamber, and the chamber it is contained in was built before the League got there. Registeel is to be kept in its chamber at all times. No personnel below the rank of League Commander or Class 5 Scientist may enter the chamber save for experimentation. Registeel is kept asleep, and will stay asleep as long as █████████ lays dormant in █████████, but it is known to have periods of agitation during the ritual that we still do not know the reason for. The working theory is that the few seconds █████████ awakens during the ritual is enough to sometimes wake Registeel or its siblings from their slumber. Do not approach unless Registeel awakens or you have direct permission from a Commander, a Class 5 Scientist, or someone of higher rank.

Experimentation Log #9 (Doctor █████████)

Date: September 13th ████

Death row inmates ██████ ██████ and ███ █████ were kept within Registeel’s chamber with their prison uniforms and placed there, but no effects were observed within the first twenty-four hours. No pain was reported, and inmates appear to be behaving fine. No iron deficiencies or surplus was detected, and their blood samples were perfectly healthy. There is no sign of mercury poisoning. My team will keep monitoring them for the next week.

Date: September 20th ████

There is still nothing to report. Hypothesis about bodies turning to iron has been proven false.

Date: November 6th ████

███ █████ and ██████ ██████ have been diagnosed with prostate and kidney cancer, and they are both progressing too fast to attempt to eradicate via chemotherapy. Requesting the shipment of more inmates to confirm if this was Registeel’s doing.

Date: November 10th ████

Both inmate have died in the same day. High amounts of cadmium was found in their blood despite not having been found shortly after having stayed in Registeel’s chamber for twenty-four hours. I feel confident in saying that Registeel is the cause of both cancers. It is unknown if it being awake speeds up the development of the cancer or not.

Recommendations: Shipment of more inmates to test if there is a point of no return where one cannot stand near Registeel or if the buildup of cadmium in the system is reset after a certain amount of time.

It’s worrying to know that something worse than that Steelix is living under the Iron Islands! And good luck on your exams 💜
