Ruan’s Red Beetle vs Motorcycle
I’ve imagined Ruan riding a motorcycle so many times… but I could never let go of his little red Beetle either 😭❤️
The Beetle just has so much personality and charm, and it feels very “him.” But at the same time, I realized a motorcycle made sense for his day-to-day life and some of the jobs/missions he has to do. He’s a very active character, so sometimes he needs something more practical too.
So I ended up designing both to compare the different energy each vehicle gives him, and honestly, I really love both versions now.
I also included some process GIFs to show a bit of how I built these illustrations step by step!

The Beetle gives more colour to his personality but the motorbike cannot be ignored it looks so good!! But also do you ever seem to find it hard to draw vechiles?
I’m really happy you like both! 😊 Honestly, I felt like I needed both of them. And drawing vehicles isn’t as hard as it might seem! I never had much interest in drawing cars before, but after drawing so many streets and backgrounds over the years, I ended up getting used to them. I think it mostly comes down to practice, and not getting too caught up in every little detail. Simplifying shapes a bit makes the process much more enjoyable.
Both are between him very fitting, but maybe he can start with the bike and later acquire the beetle. Kind of representing how he goes from a bachelor bachelors, single life into maybe a relationship or even considering a relationship… Just sort of showing what he’s thinking?🤷♀️
That’s a really interesting interpretation ^^ Both vehicles will definitely be part of the story, and over time I’ll reveal when and why each one comes into play.

Pior que eu cheguei a pensar nisso no começo! Mas, conforme fui desenvolvendo a história, senti que o Fusca combinava muito mais com o Ruan. Minha intuição acabou levando nessa direção, e hoje não consigo imaginar sendo diferente.

Ruan seems like the type of guy to like to keep busy when he’s not sleeping. The beetle would be great as a project for him to work on, possibly showing his character growth from a barely running car to a good as new car near the end of the series? The motorcycle can portray his working persona. He seems like the type to have two personas haha
I really like your interpretation! 😊 You’re actually pretty close to what I have in mind. He’ll have both vehicles, but for completely different situations. Since he’s such an independent person, I think they both fit different sides of his life. As for how and when they become part of the story… I’ll let that unfold naturally over time. 😉

Both are great! I do favor the motorcycle though. It’s stereotypical yet just right for a good-bad boy type. But the beetle has been with us all this time and it be so cute for dates… Can’t he just be like Batman and just have both? The beetle for every day use and the motorcycle for his badass missions? Cause girl he look SOOOO FINE ON THAT BIKE!!!! 🥵🥵🥵🥵

Today I learned the Beetle is his car and not Lorena’s 😂 I feel like such a fake fan. I definitely love both, but the Beetle has a special place in my heart as someone who loves vintage cars from Europe

Muito obrigada! 🥹💕 Eu tenho preferência por pintar por cima da lineart, sim. Eu costumo criar uma camada em Multiply acima da lineart e, entre ela e a lineart, coloco uma camada em Overlay para dar um pouco de cor às linhas, mas mantendo o contraste delas. Acabei desenvolvendo esse fluxo porque meu processo de lineart é meio bagunçado 😅, então sempre trabalhei assim. Mas acho que isso varia muito de artista para artista, não existe uma regra. Esse método acabou funcionando melhor para mim. 😊

Thank you! I’ve always loved Beetles and vintage things, so it wasn’t hard to choose the perfect car for them. ^^ At first, I had to do some research on the Beetle, but later I bought a small Beetle toy to use as a reference. I usually don’t trace over it, or over the motorcycle either. Because I think it’s the best way to naturally adapt things to my own style. And about art block, I totally understand. I think drawing things that genuinely interest you can really help.
