Workshop Report 2020.6
The weeks since the last workshop report, almost felt like a holiday. With support of the "Firing Squad" rule book for Shadowrun 6, the plugin version 1.2.0, a project running for the last months came to an end. As it was to expect, I had to fix bugs introduced with the new data, but that was mostly easy to do.
Interactions with users on our issue tracker and Discord let to one user joining the project. After the initial setup of Git and tools on his side, he was very active fixing minor problems and kept me busy with Pull Requests. We both needed to find our way how to collaborate, but I think we are settled now. So, welcome aboard Robert/Kid.
Should you be interested in contributing to Genesis, there is a beginning of a guide in our Wiki.
French translation?
Just yesterday I have been contacted by a group of french players, that are interested in providing a french translation of Shadowrun. For those of you who don't follow this: During March there was a crowdfunding for a french translation by Black Bock Éditions, the publisher for the 5th edition and Anarchy, which went successful. Backers already got hold of an early PDF, so the translation might indeed start.
I took the opportunity and wrote a guide for translators. I don't know if it will be required any further, but if so, I'd like to be prepared.
SR6 Discord Bot
With the update for "Firing Squad" released, the SR6 Bot for Discord needed an update too, to be able to load characters with new data from the supplement. The weeks before I refactored some underlying code to allow for faster integration of the other supported RPGs, should there be need for them.
Writing a Discord bot was an interesting experience. It also gave me ideas for features for a server side component of Genesis. I could widen my scope here (supporting more RPGs), deepen the support (more SR6 features) or leave it for now (since having a SR6 Bot for Discord serves only a very small group of players). To get an idea, I will create a poll for Acolyte tier and upwards.
At the moment, there are 68 Discord guilds/servers running the Bot - 90% of them are german servers. But having the Bot installed and using it are to different things and I still don't have a feeling if there is significant use for the Bot at all.
Genesis itself
Funny enough having active contributors does effectively reduce the time I can spend on the code, since I have to review contributions or discuss how to solve problems. So, my own contributions where more that of a project leader than a programmer, but Kid (for Shadowrun) and Daodras (for Splittermond) worked themselves through the issue tracker and we close to releasing new patch versions of the plugins.
