Workshop Report 2020.4

I hope you all are well and able to cope with the new situation of the global pandemic. My wife and I are well and staying the fuck home - which is not so difficult for us, since we have a house with a garden and can get outside without walking into other people and still chat with the neighbors.

Splittermond JSON export

Somewhere in fall last year I made a decision to provide a JSON export plugin for Splittermond characters, to ease the use in VTT tools. I did not find the time until yet, but Corona lead us to use Roll20 at the moment and so the idea got into focus again.

Anja took the job of writing the export plugin and we got in contact with Loki (the author of the Roll20 Splittermond character sheet), to ask for his requirements/ideas for such an export. We also talked to Uhrwerk Verlag about whether such an export would be covered by the license and they agreed. So, owners of the Splittermond license for Genesis will be able to export their characters with all values and description texts.

While we are making adjustments to the export, the new plugin is already available in the development version of Genesis, so patrons on the Socius level should already be able to test it.

Shadowrun 6 "Firing Squad"

I am in the process of entering all data from Firing Squad, the upcoming combat supplement which is due to be released this month. In addition to entering a lot of new gear, the supplement features two new rule aspects which I am currently adding to Genesis:

• Weapon and armor modifications

• Martial arts

I just finished entering the weapon modifications and updated the application so that you can actually add and remove them. There are still some details left to do, e.g. adding a weapon security system effectively adds another slot for accessories, which isn't working like I expected it at the moment.

If I am done with that, I need to write a way to add martial arts. I am not sure where to put it on the UI. Most likely I move some sections, so that the current "Equipment" page will be a "Combat" page (moving "Other gear" section to the "Matrix" page, which will be renamed "Other gear" for now). In that case, "Martial arts" fits perfectly on the combat page.

And then, of course, I still need to enter all firearms and accessories. That is a no-brainer most of the time, but tedious. But I am confident that Genesis will be in shape for "Firing Squad" soon after it is published this month.

German players need to wait a bit longer. Genesis will not provide Firing Squad in german until the german book is released.
