2019 - Final thoughts

I missed the ThankYouPatrons day this year, so I take the opportunity of 2019 coming to an end, to thank you all.

Writing code for fun is something I am doing since approx. 30 years now, but working on code for RPG software that actually has users is fairly new.  I am not into selling such software, since that instantly converts it from a fun hobby project to a kind of job/work which different expectations. Two years ago when I started here at Patreon, I wasn't sure if anyone would support us here at all. The software was free, no hard benefit was to be gained here. But over the time the community grew here and Anja and I still feel honored that you support us here.

Your support helps pay the monthly costs of the Webserver and the services from Atlassian (internal and external ticket system, the Wiki, the code repository and build server). We could work without, but it is so much easier using all these professional tools. (In addition we also have some pocket money to spend. ;-) ) So, we want to say THANK YOU!

Looking back, I must admit that I suck at making long-term plans and sticking to it - at least for promised time frames. The reason is mostly that life happens and the available free time isn't so plenty as I expected, but also due to the fact that some areas loose focus, when others gain them. It is a hobby project and I sometimes tend to work according to my personal preferences, instead of taking care of bugs or writing a promised feature. Still, I am mostly aware what I promised and work on that, but it sure causes delays.

What I need to work on for 2020 is to get more help from the community. In the past this worked quite well for Splittermond, but even that faded into hibernation at the moment. Without such support pushing the application forward will likely cease, since I am busy with bugfixing and adding data. So, that is a priority for 2020.

Let us see what else we can achieve in 2020. I am eager to keep going.
