Workshop Report August 2019
Another month passed - I will try to give you my dear patrons an overview of what happened.
The main area of work is as expected Shadowrun 6. The character creation already is fairly complete (see image above). Levelling is still a lot to do. Printing a character works, but the design of the character sheet isn't finished yet. Sometimes I am unsure how the user interface should be designed, so I either ask my wife - or the patrons on the Acolyte tier and above.
The supporters on the Socius tier already had two test versions of Genesis 5 delivered. I don't know if anyone gave it a try - at least I did not hear anything.
As for the other RPGs, currently only Splittermond had activity. Some contributors helped with either a lot (60+) of fixed errors for spells or masteries (Uwe Hermasch) or by entering a complete setting book (Alexander Schmidt for Mahaluu). I added some bug fixes and so we had 3 bug fix versions since mid July.
I admit, this week I needed a small pause from Genesis. This happens every now and then and it usually doesn't mean that I am not programming - just not Genesis. In this case I revived code I wrote 22(!) years ago. (Side note: some of it still used RCS/CVS as a versioning system) During that time I was still studying Computer Science and was actively playing a MUD (Multi User Dungeon). Since I was also a fan of the Ultima series, I dreamed of either writing my own Ultime-like game or my own MUD or possibly combining both (that was even before Ultime Online).
I did not finish any of that, but I already had a map and made my own graphics. That data and code still resides on my harddisks and I invested some time to read the data and convert it to the .TMX format of tiled. I used tiled to generate a bitmap of the rendered map - a high resolution image is here.
Today it is a lot easier to make a game and I was fantasizing about trying somelink like the mobile game Dungeons of Chaos - but perhaps using the Splittermond rules :) Of course this won't happen - I wouldn't know where to find the time for that, but my inner retro gamer would like that.
But first things first: My plan is still to deliver Genesis 5 with Shadowrun 6 support in October. And the next step is rewriting the Splittermond generator and incorporate all the things I learned/tested developing for SR6.
