âWhen a man lies, he murders some part of the world.â - Merlin So, I saw this one out of order. I missed it at release, and it showed up after I watched your post-awakening video. I started watching your channel after the blessed algorithm put you in my feed (Iâm a sucker for the illusion of connection that comes from watching someone discover my favorites). I stayed because of the animated persona, creative profanity, and genuine insight⌠If I find myself delving into a creatorâs back catalog, I usually join their Patreon to say thanks. I didnât expect this channel to take a sudden turn into existential crisis and metaphysical awakening, but I shouldnât be surprised. No coincidences. Quite a few of the things you wrestled with in this video resonated with me. Although a bit in reverse. Iâm at the tail end of a military career and about to retire for good, when I found myself back on a spiritual path. The sense of being unmoored at this point is more invigorating than terrifying. But like all things, it is both and neither. You have caught a glimpse early in life and I hope you are able to ride the wave uninterrupted from here. As you explore the idea of confronting and removing the lies we tell ourselves⌠youâll find itâs a precarious onion. Everything we tell ourselves is a lie. We literally are nothing but a series of stories we tell ourselves. Author, Actor, and audience. As you start to recognize your behaviors as stories and discard them, you begin to realize that âyouâ are nothing but a pattern of behaviors. Like a whirlpool in a stream. The whirlpool is a thingâŚit has a shape, pattern, and for given to it by the environment⌠but it is not the water that flows through it. The water that comprises it tomorrow is not the same water that formed it today. Itâs really one of the best metaphors for being Iâve heard. If you keep asking yourself⌠is this true? Or is this a story Iâm telling myself? Youâll find there isnât much left in the âtrueâ pile. The reassuring thing I hear is that you have a sense of when you are aligned and when you are not. This is all that you need to guide you through this. I had the opposite experience about our vocation⌠I left the service once when I was your age⌠and it was disastrous. I was unaligned⌠and the universe brought me back into the fold through a series of synchronicities⌠like Arjuna, I was meant to be in service, though I had moral questions⌠my karma lay in fulfilling that duty. I was aligned and had a great career. But the last few years have been hard⌠and the sense of being out of alignment is strong (Iâm sure for obvious reasons)âŚIâve managed to make it to the finish line, and I canât wait to cross it in the next few months. I get asked, " What will you do when you get out? How can you leave all this behind? Wonât you miss it? I tell them, âNo, I wonât miss it. I have interests. The least interesting thing I do all day is come to work.â They look at me weird, but Iâm fucking smiling. When Iâm pursuing my hobbies and interests, I lose track of timeâŚIâm caught up in the bliss of creatingâŚeven things that might be considered âwork,â and that is a sign itâs the right thing to be doing. Let that guide you. The same is true for relationships. They may require effort or work, but they shouldnât be hard, hurt, or draining⌠they should feel like anything else when you are aligned. You should feel good about the energy you spend on them. The saying about âDo what you love and success will find youâ is a both and neither situation as well. If you truly love it, it will redefine your definition of success. If that translates into worldly reward great⌠but if you truly love it, you wonât care. Life is an act of faith. Not faith in yourself, but faith in life. Find the wave, trust in it⌠and youâll never have to look for a parking space ever again. đ Sorry for the lengthy diatribe, but these are topics Iâm dealing with myself, and I donât believe in coincidences. Itâs hard to discuss them with most folks since language is often useless without shared experience. So, I thought Iâd share. Good luck and happy surfing.
I really need this, it's the perfect moment
This was a great episode, and I almost didn't watch it because the title felt a bit in-your-face, lol. When in fact it's an exhortation that needs to be heard by so many people. Especially about careers and jobs that you're just existing in. And to be clear, there will always be jobs that are just jobs and not necessarily the crux of who we are, but they should at least not conflict with who we are. I foolishly stayed in a job for [too many] years where I pretty much had to regularly lie to people on the phone and in person just because the person I worked for was not the most honest person (even though he, like so many dishonest people, claimed to value honesty. I guess you value things when you're in short supply of them? But anyway.) I felt like I had no choice, that it was that or nothing. But then circumstances happened where I had to get a different job, and it was literally perfect for me. (I mean, not PERFECT, but compared to what I was doing.) So I was doing both jobs, the new one and the old one, and I quickly realized how much happier with myself I was in the new job, and how I dreaded every minute at the old job. Eventually, I went into my boss's office and told him, "I can't do this any more." (Which is a whole other story.) Now I'm looking for a job that suits me even more, which is hard in this climate but I have hope that it's not impossible. I'm still doing the old job part-time, but minimal tasks where I'm not the face that has to lie to people directly, because that can be soul-crushing. I'm getting up there in years, so I don't know what my most fulfilling job will be, but I do know there are hobbies I should refocus on, like you said. I have a piano keyboard that makes me happy EVERY time I play it WITHOUT fail, and yet I go days, weeks, even months not playing it, instead scrolling the internet or binge-ing on YouTube. (No offense to YT content creators, myself included.) I hope you find the thing that most resonates with you. Or multiple things, especially since you likely have many years ahead of you. Though we all need to treat every day like it's precious, because the older I get, the more I realize how finite a resource they are. Thank you for sharing with us, and reminding me that there's so much more to life than merely making it through the day.
About to retire from active duty service after 20 years. I relate to what youâre saying
Please please please react to Arcane, I know you love Jinx so it's a win win, your page will blow up with people I promise! I love your reactions and hope you do!
How on point for me! 𤣠I am definitely no longer lying to myself.. What i hate so much is that I can't share this feeling of overwhelming joy with people any faster. Facing who you really are can be a long process, but it's sooo worth it. And you know what they say, the journey can often be more important than the destination!
thanks for sharing! it really is worth it ^.^
I always try to be as honest as I can for the same reason an old boss of mine told me he always told me he told the truth.... "I always tell the truth because when I lie I have to tell another lie to cover up for the lie and then another lie to cover up for that lie until pretty soon I can't remember the lies I told" The way I see it lies just make things harder to deal with in the long run and the lies you tell yourself make them even worse. I have had a lot of people ask me for advice in the past and I try not to get involved in doing that anymore because people who ask for advice don't want your advice they just want you to agree with them and someone to blame when things go to shit. Since you didn't ask I will give you one piece of advice... Find what makes you happy and find a way to turn it into a career. Don't look at something that will make you rich because that will end up making you unhappy. Money is not everything and you will feel richer enjoying what you do even if you aren't making a lot. People who brag often don't like themselves much and want to impress others thinking it will bring them happiness. Even if they pull don't a lot of money they aren't really happy a good example of this are celebrities (movie stars and the music industry) are really the most obvious and visible. Many of them end up with a string of marriages and divorces, drug habits and alcoholism because they end up being someone they are not. Look at Ryan Reynolds and you find someone who truly enjoys what he is doing working as not only an actor but producer, writer and businessman who has been married to an attractive woman actress Named Blake Lively that he met on the set of Green Lantern (2011) a movie he hated. One marriage 4 children and one of the most popular and successful actors in the acting world even though he was born in Canada where it is harder to break in to the industry. Follow his example find what makes you happy and do it for yourself.
thank you for the kind words and insightful advice. definitely will apply it to my life as much as possible! :)
You can avoid a lot of problems and life dramas when you are honest with yourself. It is not always easy but I think you will jave less regrets because you can change your trajectory towards something more in line with what you want or want to be. When you lie to yourself you give that up, waste your time, and, from my experience, end up with regrets you could have avoided. But hey, sometimes thats âlifeâ. đ¤ˇđźââď¸
This really resonated with me. That idea of âlying to yourselfâ about being okay with something because itâs what youâre supposed to do⌠I think a lot of us fall into that without even realising it. I went through a bit of a winding path myself â uni, dropping out, working full time, going back to study, different jobs⌠and for years I kept telling myself âthis is just how it is.â Work, come home exhausted, repeat. Providing for the family, doing the ârightâ thing â but never really feeling like it fit. I bounced between a few jobs over the years, always hitting that same wall where it just stopped clicking. It took a long time (and a lot of frustration) to realise that I wasnât just having âbad daysâ â I was trying to force myself into something that didnât suit me at all. Eventually my wife and I made a big change. We downsized, shifted things around, and I stepped away from full-time work to be at home with our kids. Itâs not perfect, and I know weâre incredibly lucky to even have that option, but itâs made such a difference. Iâm happier, more present, and our whole household just feels⌠lighter. Hearing you talk about recognising those feelings instead of brushing them off really hit home. Itâs not always easy to admit that something isnât right, especially when itâs the âexpectedâ path. Wishing you all the best as you figure things out â it sounds like youâre asking yourself the right questions.
thank you so much for sharing, i'm sorry you had to reach that level of "auto-pilot"/just existing. i'm glad you're doing better and i hope to say the same soon as i continue to navigate this phase of life! ^.^
Grateful to hear your wisdom đŤ
"listen, I'm good. I know who I am and I like myself, my job, my choices, etc. mentally, physically, emotionally, I'M FINE, okay??"đ ...he lied to himself, lyingly.
You are in the majority so "dinna fash yerself..."
Oh. How long do captions usually take? *they're available on YouTube đ¤
They are also on DVDs and Blu-ray. Just don't use the ones done by Artificial Idiocy it really doesn't do well in any language but it is about 3rd grade level in English.
