Update
Chapter 18 of Banished has been submitted to Lit. Chapter 20 is currently at ~35 pages, and I estimate it might end up being somewhere in the vicinity of 50 pages or so. I'm still hoping to be able to wrap that up by this weekend.
In other news, I've gotten into contact with someone willing to record an audiobook version of Banished at fairly reasonable rates, but I thought I'd pose the question to patrons first. How do you all feel about an audiobook? Is it something you want to see in the future? I'm planning on giving it a try for at least the first two chapters, then I guess I'll see what the response is like. :)
Will do another update when chapter 20 is closer to completion.
With love,
Kousaka~

Not sure, man. I like the story -- and it has real promise. Usually, the path is eBook -> audiobook. It depends on how much you think it will cost and whether you can recover. Annabelle Hawthorne's story (Radley's Home for Horny Monsters) has won numerous Lit awards, but it will require 1000 downloads for her audiobook to break even (currently at 850).
Ohh, I actually had a chat with Annabelle about this, and she was kind enough to offer some really good advice based on her experience with the audiobook route. To clarify though, I'm not aiming to have a professionally produced audiobook right now as the cost of that would be far more than I can afford. What I'm doing rather is giving a shot to a newbie in the voice acting scene (a fellow lit author as well, who also has experience doing sexy audio recordings and has the equipment required to do the reading). She's never done audiobook recordings before, but she shows promise and her rates are incredibly reasonable. I know that it may or may not work out well, but if it does, this would be made available to patrons, but also, eventually offered for free as a way to attract perhaps some new readers to my work.
I think that's a pretty good idea honestly. I've seen authors like Michael-Scott Earle use the audiobook for his books successfully and while I'm not one of the people who listens to audiobooks, I'm sure there's a pretty big audience for it out there. As for ero scenes, you can also check out Michael-Scott Earle's audiobooks to get an idea. If I'm not wrong, all of the women in the audiobook are played by one single lady who differentiates the way she talks for every single character so yeah.
Thanks for the input! I'll definitely check it out. 😊
I think an audiobook might be a way to get more people invested in the story if you actually find a platform where you can distribute it. However, I am not sure if erotic literature is particularly suited for the audiobook format if there is only a narrator reading out the entire book as is- I imagine it very difficult to portray the scenes involving intercourse in an alluring way to both male and female audiences depending on the gender of the narrator. Also keep in mind that you are dealing with 'ancient tongues', accents, partly german and lots of exclamations and modified speech during intercourse in your story. Getting that just right might also be a big ask of a narrator and is certainly something you would need to consider while choosing someone. Personally, I don't think I would listen to it to be honest, but then again I don't listen to a lot of story-driven audiobooks anyways. To me, the format lends itself better to conveying information while performing an otherwise mundane task.
Well, the person I have in mind is used to doing sexy readings, so I'm hoping we can find a way to make those erotic scenes work. 😅 I have mentioned the German/tribal accents to her since I know that'll be a bit of a challenge to get right, but she's willing to give it a try and her rates are quite reasonable so I'm thinking its worth the risk for a 1-2 chapter trial if for nothing else than to see how it'd turn out. But thanks a lot for the input! I really appreciate it. 😊
I think a graphic novel would be better than an audiobook, but that my opinion. I have a friend who does audiobooks for people's writings, so I know it's cheaper than to get an artist in for a graphic novel. Not sure how much of a demand there is for audiobooks though.
Honestly, a Banished manga/graphic novel would be badass as hell. If this ever sells or becomes successful, I'd definitely invest in that. 😂
