Saturday Devlog

Hey everyone! Baku here.

Last week, I said I wanted to spend more time on the game's art, and that's pretty much what I've been doing most of the time. But... then I got a little sidetracked. More on that in a bit.

I've been slowly going back through older scenes and looking for places where the lack of artwork is especially noticeable. It's kind of funny returning to scenes I made quite a while ago, because now I immediately spot moments where I would've been perfectly happy with one image back then, but now I want to add another two or three.

I started with the scenes that have been asking for some extra attention for a long time. In some places I'm adding new shots, while in others I'm almost completely redrawing the old artwork, because I just can't bring myself to leave it sitting next to the newer stuff...

But aside from that, I realized that with how insanely large the game has already become, simply redrawing old art and adding new images doesn't feel like enough. I need to keep pushing new content forward too, or at this rate we'll never actually get to it. So I sat down and wrote a new story segment with Fisk and the mermaids.

The event ended up being pretty packed: there's a fishing competition, QTEs where you fight off sea monsters, a new dish to cook, and, of course, the very first monster girls! There, you'll come across the Marul — a huge fish covered in eyes — along with a bunch of smaller sea creatures. The mermaids are there too, but I'm not going to say much about them just yet :)

So yeah, the update is gradually filling up with more artwork and, apparently, new content too. I'm still not sure whether this event will actually make it into this month's update, though, since I really do need to fill in the gaps in the older content at some point, or it'll never end.

I think the main thing is to keep the writing and the story moving forward, even if some of that progress stays behind the scenes for now.

That's about it.

Have a great weekend, everyone, and thanks for reading our devlogs!
