WIP: The 16-Bit Collection
The weekend is here, and so is the WIP ✨ We have been working super hard on these vintage 90s consoles. We looked at vintage models like the SNES, Game Boy, and the Sega Tower of Power for reference, and the block-out and baking details have turned out great so far.
In the lab, we are always trying our best to keep the polycount in check to make sure the 3D models are lightweight and optimized for in-game use. This ensures the game won't lag crazily every time you move the camera (That was literally my experience playing The Sims on my 4GB laptop back in university).
Almost all of our high-detail models are over 10,000—or even millions of vertices, which is enough to make our PCs cry. Because of that, the final versions we put in the game are the low-poly versions. In this set, they are no more than 600 triangles.
We are always so proud when we figure this out - it’s like a small competition to see who can make the lowest-polygon model with the most detailed look.
We will move to texturing soon, where all these items will be decorated with even more personality and detail!
