Organized attack on my Discord server. THEY FAILED!
Hello everyone! Today was supposed to be a typical day with no headaches, just focusing on my girls and creating more and more good pictures but it didn’t go as planned. This afternoon I was working on my real job while rendering yesterday’s scenes in the background when I suddenly received a message from “Highborntiger” (a dev from another game, a trusted user)
He asked “Do you have 5 minutes?” I said “Sure, tell me.” Then he asked if I could test his game to see if there were any issues. At first I wasn’t going to do it because I was very busy but I said “Ok, send it over, I’ll see if I can.” I was a bit suspicious since he sent me a website I’d never heard of but I downloaded the file anyway. I checked it on Virustotal and it found nothing, strangely, Windows Defender didn’t warn me either
As soon as I ran the setup it gave an error and then he started spamming tons of stuff IP addresses, threats like “send me gift cards in 5 minutes or I’ll destroy your life.” I immediately blocked him but he unblocked himself and continued spamming. Meanwhile he started removing my channels on Discord but he couldn’t remove the server thanks to 2FA protection
All of this happened on my remote machine, not my actual PC. That remote PC had almost nothing on it, only my scenes and Daz files. I never logged in there with any email so my Patreon accounts and everything else were safe, all already protected with 2FA(I reset all my passwords anyway)
Anyway, I immediately logged into my account from my own PC and banned him and his other two accounts. I believe he brought those accounts to use as bots so he could ban everyone easily but it didn’t work, he was busy giving them roles instead. I saved my server at the last second. He was only able to ban two of my mods and that was it. I also hit “Report Raid” and locked down the server to prevent further damage
After banning his accounts I changed all my passwords, installed a bunch of antiviruses, and ran a program called “Tron” to remove any virus he put on my PC. Everything is now secure and I double-checked everything
Before I banned him he wrote something somewhere on Discord just to get my account banned which happened but I had already secured my account. I also have a backup account with which I can control my server again. I contacted Discord but their support is very slow. Hopefully they’ll unban me soon
Definitely report these accounts to Discord. I already did, but you can see how fast I banned them.

It turns out this “Highborntiger” was also hacked, one of my translators was hacked too, so he was using their accounts to spread this.(My translator is okay now; he got his account back.) It could have been much worse if he had stayed longer on my account because I have so many dev friends who could have been affected. I acted quickly, fixed the situation, and currently my server is set up again and running properly
It’s my fault even if a file comes from a trusted user I shouldn’t have accepted it. But sometimes you just make mistakes I guess. This is the second attack that has happened to me, about a year ago you guys may remember I lost my account for the same ban reason. Unfortunately these rats will always exist
Server or no server as long as I’m alive I’ll always reach you all one way or another. I won’t slow down and I promise you these attacks just motivate me even more than before. They only wasted one day of my time. They accomplished absolutely nothing and never will. I’ll be honest I’m not scared of anyone except GOD. I will keep moving forward even if everything I built was destroyed I can rebuild no problem
The only thing I lost was the content on those channels but that’s okay. You’re here, I’m here, we’re alive. I will keep adding my content there. Keep the fire burning and make this game a MASTERPIECE

The clue was that, rather than sending you the file directly, they sent you to a strange website to download it 🤔, making it look like a trusted developer in disguise. It's unfortunate that you downloaded it, but the good news is that you only lost one day's work. Now you need to reset your mindset. I'm surprised they asked you for a gift card. What are those? Are they like shopping vouchers worth 10 or 15 bucks? I hope you're feeling better now that some time has passed 🫡👍.
4 days of work. I think they’re refunding money to their account, but I really don’t know how it works,I’ve never bought gift cards manually. And yeah, I was stupid, I mean, I was suspicious about it, but it turns out this tool doesn’t get detected as a virus, which is why VirusTotal found nothing, and I didn’t really know such things existed, because Windows Defender didn’t alert me either.
If you have other devs you trust, speak to them and agree a "passphrase" Between you if they want to send you something. Also you should post this to the AVNlovers and AVN community sub reddit so other devs k ow about it. Glad everything worked out mate
Have you talked to him, directly? Or are you assuming he did it to hurt your game? There are a number of hackers on itch.io, porngamehub, and other websites, who stalk discords and spread virus ware. He may have not even known. His account may have been hacked. He may not have even aware or able to stop it. Once installed, these hackers can/will open your current Gmail account, and they’ll look at what you have installed… and speak on your behalf. So, he may have been a legit user who was hacked.
It is very possible that the accounts he used were hacked. After all, they have to cover their tracks one way or another. Highborntiger’s situation is worse. I was lucky, I acted very quickly and reset all my passwords, but it could have been a big disaster if this had happened on my own PC. I also feel like this wasn’t just one guy, it looks like a group effort. As much as I get love, I get hate too. There were people creating alt accounts and making misleading reviews and comments on itch.io etc. He only told me, “I’ve got your info and I will destroy your life if you don’t send me a gift card in 5 minutes.” I banned him in the third minute.

Is your remote machine a fully physical computer? I've been trying to set up some VMS for some games/rendering but I'm getting bottlenecked on some GPU passthrough
Yes, it’s a fully physical machine, not a virtual machine. I think opening any file on a virtual machine is the best option, but I’ve never tried using one before. I don’t have much knowledge about it.

This is just a regular thing between my updates,either I lose my account or I get hacked. It’s full of surprises. But I keep moving forward, they’re not going to be able to stop that.
I know…. I read about it on Discord. The most important thing is you got your account back, banned these losers, and stopped them from doing any more damage.
These are the most worthless people, man. I’m usually very careful with these things, but I became totally stupid for a moment. Right now I’m angry and full of negative energy, but I will use all of that to create something amazing.
It’s really unfortunate that something like this happened to someone as hardworking as you. I’m sorry to hear that. The ‘xell art’ channel on Discord was one of my favorites. I hope that you’ll achieve even greater success in the future to make up for what you’ve lost.
I’ll fill that channel in no time, don’t worry man. I’m currently installing all Daz assets from scratch because I formatted my PC. As soon as I’m done installing everything, I’ll get back to work again and create an even better update than before, I can promise that.

Some people just have fun destroying other people’s stuff, but fortunately his fun ended quickly. Tomorrow I’ll format the PC. I’m currently backing up the important stuff. It’ll be VERY painful to download all the assets, but unfortunately there’s not much I can do.
Oh damn. Hey be really careful those viruses can stick around undetected. Safest thing to do is reinstall the os because some of these viruses can secret themselves inside critical files

Unfortunately, it’s become a very unreliable place to hang out. We see a lot of accounts getting stolen every day.
glad all worked out in the end - many moons/years ago I had my ebay account hacked (my own fault not checking the phishing email) ... luckily I also had backup emails and ebay was quite quick - so the harm for others was minimized and they could tell it wasn't me scamming people ... keep up the good work
Yeah, it’s really annoying. I’m glad that PC didn’t have any of my emails. It could’ve been a disaster, but I changed everything quickly. 2FA really works.
