Totally agree with you, PLM, about the movie book covers. But how do you feel about it when a movie is based on a book, perhaps an old classic that’s been continuously in print for a century or two, and a publisher rolls out a movie tie-in book that’s actually a novelization of the film’s screenplay? Instead of just the real book that totally still exists. Coppola’s DRACULA film has one of these. Ugh. I listened with great interest the portion of the discussion that was about unusual formatting and formal experimentation. I agree that we should be seeing more of that or creating it ourselves. A book that came to mind while I was listening is Blake Butler’s AANNEX. It’s a novel with a very experimental format, and it’s also a formal experiment expressing a nearly impenetrable text. This may be the most pretentious book ever published (so, of course, I’m hugely fascinated with it and rather in awe of it!) Glad you took another swipe at Duncan Ralston early in the show. I love to see it!
