I've been a busy kitten mom the last few months ! The really long story is ahead to explain my absence and stress.
I adopted a kitten at the end of September from a small scale local rescue. She was one eyed and the other one had sort of dried up in there after a terrible infection. Rescue said I wouldn't have to worry about nothing. Fast forward a few weeks, she developed an infection of the bad eye (no vision, useless to her, not painful as far as anyone could tell either) so I took her to the vet. We decided enucleation would be the best route. She had her operation novemeber 20th. Things were pretty solid ! Until they were not. We discussed a couple things at her post op check up and decided she could resume normal kitten life. However, a few hours later her surgical site erupted with infection. I rushed her to urgent care panicked and distressed. We started antibiotics, got her cleaned up and got into my regular vet the next day. We are almost done her course of antibiotics and right now it's all a kind of wait and see what happens kind of thing. If the antibiotics clear it and nothing else happens, amazing, wonderful news !!! If another infection occurs, we will have to explore the surgical site to confirm all the tissue was properly taken out.
While she had her cone i basically had to be on house arrest because she was a menace with getting in and out of it and I felt like some of her care was beyond what my roommates were capable of.
She got the all clear to resume normal kitten liife again without her cone on Thursday which is a big relief. I have everything crossed nothing else comes up. My mental health and wallet need a friggin break. I've had to shell out 3k for her and don't hear that wrong. I love her. But holy heck. I really feel like this is something the rescue should have taken care or, or certainly should have offered some aid with or at least an apology. This has been so distressing and I have not been on my A game at all for a while.
Things at home continue to be a thing too. As some know, some don't, my good friend and house mate has late stage terminal illness and I'm a caregiver to her and her special needs son so it's just a pile on for Lil miss daisy here.
Sending yous all my love and wishing you warm wishes for the holidays.
May 2026 be filled with health, wealth and wellness for us all
