Tyler and I are deep in the next phase of building the greenhouse, and things are finally starting to take shape. We’ve just installed the backer board and begun adding the stone footer.

Now, this isn’t the stone we originally had in mind. We were aiming for a warm, sandstone hue but at $1.76 a brick, it was a no. Instead, we found a more affordable alternative at 27 cents a piece❤️. While the color leans darker and doesn’t quite match the gray English stone we used for the footer, the variation ended up giving the space a bit of personality. And honestly, we probably won’t notice the mismatch once everything else is complete.

For insulation, we went with pink fiberglass inside the walls. Paired with glass block windows, this setup will do more than just hold in heat, it’ll allow us to control and stabilize the internal temperature year round. Most people are used to greenhouses made entirely of thin paneling, which works fine in fair weather but can’t handle the swings of the seasons. We wanted something more substantial.

With a heating and cooling unit rated for up to 500 square feet, this space will be able to stay at a consistent 80°F even in the dead of winter if we wanted. We’re designing this to function like a true four season grow house with raised beds a couple of feet high, strong enough to support not just vegetables, but
trees as well.

Our hope is to use this space not just for ourselves, but for our friends and subscribers too! Anyone who wants something beautiful grown for their yard, or fresh produce in colder months can be apart of a vegetable lottery!

It’s been a lot of effort, but we’re proud of the result. It’s not perfect, and not everything went according to the original plan but like anything meaningful, it’s been built lots of teamwork.

More updates to come as we lay the rest of the stone and begin adding the stone to the backer board. @tyler_hardyxxx
