And suddenly, your eyes found mine. Among a crowd of people that seemed to be going nowhere, our eyes made a connection. The traffic light was on red, and as we both stared at each other from opposite sidewalks, time stood still.
You wearing your jeans, dark shoes, white shirt with the few top buttons unclipped and a coat that made you look bigger, taller. Phone in hand, you wondered if you had the courage to talk to me.
The traffic light turns green. A thunderous amount of footsteps flooded the street. Time to move.
**Like on automatic, we walked forward. We were walking towards each other, but truthfully, we weren't. Wearing my black sweater with the white skirt and the fuzzy boots you always loved, it almost feels like we're going to crash onto each other. **
Like our bodies used to be drawn together onto each other, lured by an invisible magnetic field. Lured in by desire, and lust, when we made love.
**I lower my sight, unable to resist your gaze. We're so close, yet so far away. **
In that split second when we were side to side, next to each other, you tried to say something. I could almost hear your mumbled words, a silence that spoke louder than any shout.
**But you can't get the words out of your mouth. **
And I can't bring myself to look back.
What remains for us, is the sweet and intoxicating scent of our bodies in that one second where I could feel you. Again.
