Last night's DnD session was our party's first encounter with a mimic!
We stumbled across a clearing with a chest slightly obscured upon a ledge. Two of our party members decided that it was prudent to check it out, despite our reservations haha.
First the dwarf ventured ahead and concluded after a perception check that it was fine to open, however upon doing so was met with a rather large pair of jaws that promptly swallowed half of him. Our human fighter jumped in to try to pull him out and also ended up being engulfed by the mimic.
Myself and the half elf decided to stay back and use our familiars to distract the mimic in order to provide an advantage to those trying to escape but sadly that's all we could do as our rolls were downright awful.
Rethiel (my elf) pretty much shot a wonderful outline of the mimic as all arrows missed each time. Finally the two managed to break free and land some hits and the sneak advantage I was afforded by being a rogue meant I was able to land a critical hit and the mimic was no more.
Naturally I looted the ever loving fuck out of it and kept the spoils for myself.
