Sky High Confessional #16 — The deepest love has taken me 💙
With Valentine’s Day just a few days away, I wanted to dedicate this week’s confession to love.
I’ve been lucky enough to experience it a few times in my life, but there was one moment where it completely took over. The feelings were so intense it was almost like being possessed, as if emotion had taken the wheel and logic stepped aside. It was overwhelming, unsettling, and at the same time, truly phenomenal.
The story began at Mardi Gras in early 2020, right on the eve of COVID, when the news was starting to circulate but life hadn’t yet changed. On the first night, at an underwear party, he walked in not long after I arrived. He was a big muscle boy, and I was taken immediately. We danced, talked, and felt drawn to each other in a way that surprised me.
Over the course of the weekend we caught up a few more times, and even though we lived in different cities, we stayed in touch afterwards, sending gym videos and messages. I’d been single for a few years and just getting back into bodybuilding, and something about him felt like a portal into the next stage of my life, like everything was aligning at once.
The complication was that he was in an open relationship, one he insisted was coming to an end. About a month later, the pull became so strong that I drove 800 kilometres just to see him. I needed to know if what I was feeling was real. What followed was an incredible stretch of time, first a couple of intense weeks, then nearly five months of being close, sharing daily life, cooking together, training together, and collecting moments that felt genuinely blissful. But eventually it became clear that his existing relationship was where he would stay long term. I knew it was irrational, but I also knew I had to try. Leaving and going cold turkey was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, the only time love has caused me physical pain. Still, I’m grateful I got to feel something so deeply, because so much of it, even now, feels undeniably beautiful.
Love doesn’t always stay, but sometimes it arrives just to show you how deeply you’re capable of feeling. That experience changed me in ways I still carry, and I wouldn’t trade it, even knowing how it ended.
What’s the deepest love you’ve ever felt? DM me your story and I’ll gift you a little surprise with early access to an upcoming pre-sale 🤍
