I’d known I was gay for a while, but it wasn’t until I was 18 — my first year of uni — that I finally found out what it was all about. The guy was my first boyfriend; we dated for about three months.

He still lived at home, so everything had to be kept quiet. I remember his tiny single bed — we ended up kind of on our sides. It was a strange mix of nerves and excitement. I didn’t really know anything about preparing or what to expect. It felt like a hot poker at first — sharp, awkward — but somehow good at the same time.

We used condoms, and afterwards I was sore and a little dazed. Honestly, it was a bit of an anticlimax… but it also felt like the start of something bigger. Something new. And god, it felt so naughty.
