There's this funny thing when you start a project, I don't know if this is a universal experience or not but for me it tends to go something like this: a sudden wave of excitement and inspiration, the rapid growth of an idea like a bud on a flower, the irresistible and all consuming urge to make it a reality, an intense period of aggressive focus where doing anything but working towards realising your vision is agony, sudden and uncontrollable expansion of scope as your creation further inspires you, the slow realisation that you've bitten off more than you can chew, the creeping dread that you may die before you meet your own expectations, depression, "coming back to it later".
Sometimes I do manage to keep myself under control and actually finish a thing, but most things that I am genuinely really excited about get shelved seemingly indefinitely. I mean, I don't know if you've noticed but I've had a comic adventure thing pinned on my page, promising the next advancement soon for several years now. It's become a monument of sorts, a standing testiment to my lack of resolve! I should let it die but I cannot, but I can't continue with it either. Maybe tomorrow...
It would be fine, except these unfinished things don't just sit on the shelf. They refuse to behave and frequently escape cold storage in my head and get up to mischief, teasing me with ideas and potential and complaining that I've not finished them yet! They're weights on my mind, they are a burden, a guilt, I'm tormented by my neglected ideas and there's so many of them now.
So it's time to go back and do something about that. If I can't put them out of their misery, I have to complete them. I've gone back to the toilet animation that I started literally 2 years ago. It's crazy, I spent so much time on this, I remember focusing on it for weeks and there is so little to show for it(See vid 1 of the current state of it). Even worse, it’s instantly apparent why now I’ve tried to continue work; I had no idea how to structure a project and set up a good work flow. Even, even worse, I am mostly restricted to continuing how I started so even though I have a ton more experience now it isn’t helping all that much to speed things up, I’m sort of locked in to a style that’s rather laborious. Even, even EVEN worse, some bits of it are just like, very bad looking and I feel like I need to redo them, see gif 2, the left is the new version, quite an improvement I think. I’m going to do it though, I am locking in on this, I can’t keep going on with these unrealised projects burdening my fragile mental state!
So this is a WIP post I guess. If you’ve been around long enough you may have noticed that I used what was going to be the (never finished) preamble to this animation, Little animated me was going to to run into a men’s loo, fall in something gross, panic, strip naked in a stall and throw the dirty clothes out dramatically to get changed into a spare set in her bag, realise the bag was dropped outside the stall, go and get it then get caught naked by a man, then invite him for sex because it was less awkward than explaining what happened… now I write it all down, that’s insanely complicated and long. So I’m just going to replace it with a voice over! Hehe. It made a good short though so the effort I put into making the first, what, 3rd of it?, wasn’t wasted at least.
So obviously my objective here is to get this finished with as little extra work as needed, and so most oblubiously I must find the most efficient way to stick everythingI have together, so unmistakably I should stick to the style that’s established and just add whatever frames needed to maintain continuity, most absolutely, yes. What I most certainly, undisputedly, inrecoventerallbobbly should not do is start a whole new sort of sequence with changing perspectives and challenging poses to get from point A to B, so of course that’s what I’ve been doing OOPIES :3, I am literally my own worst enemy. So that’s gif 3, it’s very rough right now but I’m sure it will be AMAZING when I finish it in 2 more years! I mean soon! SOON
Thank-you for reading, I love you XOXO
